Afin de délivrer leur ami Han Solo, prisonnier de Jabba le Hutt, Luke Skywalker et ses amis décident d'infiltrer le palais de Jabba sous diverses couvertures plus ou moins réussies : les 2 droïdes C-3PO et R2-D2 sont "offerts" au Hutt, la Princesse Leia est faite prisonnière, de même que Chewbacca, tandis que Lando Calrissian est le seul à passer à peu près inaperçu sous la combinaison d'un garde humain. Luke Skywalker, quant à lui, tente une approche frontale mais Jabba le Hutt décide finalement d'éliminer le Jedi en lui réservant un sort peu enviable : le jeter dans la gueule du Sarlacc, une créature millénaire habitant la Grande Faille de Carkoon. Le set LEGO #9496 contient un skiff du désert ainsi que 4 minifigurines illustrant parfaitement cette scène du Retour du Jedi : le célèbre chasseur de primes Boba Fett (nouveau design de la minifig) et l'un des gardes de Jabba, Kithaba, sont confrontés à Luke Skywalker et Lando Calrissian déguisé en garde (ces deux dernières minifigs étant elles aussi revues et corrigées).
La scène ne serait pas complète sans la présence du terrible Sarlacc, sous sa forme de l'Edition Spéciale du Retour du Jedi. Il s'agit là d'une nouvelle version du Skiff du Désert, cette version 2012 étant cependant plus grande que la première version du set. Trois des quatre minifigurines bénéficient d'un nouveau design, et l'ensemble est disponible à sa sortie pour une trentaine d'euros. Le set #9496 Desert Skiff peut être complété par le set LEGO Star Wars #6210 - Jabba's Sail Barge, provenant de la même scène du Retour du Jedi, ainsi que du set #9516 - Jabbas' Palace. Survolant le mortel puits du Sarlacc, Luke se prépare à faire face à son destin à bord de l'Esquif du Désert. Sera-t-il dévoré par le féroce Sarlacc ?
