BASIC (PORCH OR DRIVEWAY) The Basic (Porch or Driveway) charge is determined by the size and weight of the item. Many items ship within 24 hours and arrive within 5-7 days of the shipment date. The delivery carrier will bring the item to the closest dry area outside your home. This is typically the porch, front door or driveway in front of the garage. Scheduled appointments are not available for Basic Delivery, and you do not need to be present at the time of delivery. Select oversized or heavy items may not qualify for Basic Shipping. These items will instead receive Threshold Delivery (see below). We unfortunately cannot ship to P.O. boxes. Shipments to addresses outside the United States, including Alaska, Hawaii and APO/FPO, incur additional charges that are not reflected online.

Today it is not unusual to sit in a chair of supple leather, recline on a suede couch or rest one's feet on a leather ottoman. Leather furniture can look good for a long time if it gets the proper care - which includes being kept from direct sunlight and heat. But holes, gashes, stains and wear may still be unavoidable. Because so many different tanning methods, dyes and finishes are used on animal hides, and because the process varies with the country and company of origin, there is a certain amount of risk involved in repairing or cleaning leather furniture. Repairs and cleaning may improve a piece's appearance but despite all the care a professional takes, cleaning solvents and polishing oils may cause fading or streaking - especially with suede.
Following is a sampling of leather repair and cleaning specialists: Fordham Repair Center, 10 East 33d Street between Fifth Avenue and Madison Avenue, fourth floor, 889- 4553, 8:30 A.M. to 5 P.M. MondayThough this center specializes in repairing and cleaning garments and luggage, it will accept small furniture pieces that are brought in. The owner, Lou Jacob, says he will restitch the leather on sling chairs for a charge of $25 and up. He can also spray leather with a protective finish for $50. Replacing leather, rematching or adding a new panel on a leather director's chair can run from $45 to $85. Jobs take one to two weeks. He does not make on-site calls. Froelich Leathercraft, 63-20 Austin Street at 63d Drive, Rego Park, N.Y. 11374, 897-7000, 9:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Monday through Friday. This factory specializes in making leather accessories but will also repair and retool leather desk tops on new and antique furniture. The average price for replacement is $250.
Estimates are given on jobs brought in or discussed over the phone. No on- site visits. Jobs take three weeks. New Life Leather and Vinyl Service Company, 709 West Merrick Road, Valley Stream, N.Y. 11580, 212-352- 7704, 201-365-2210 or 516-285-7878, 8 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Monday throughThis full-service leather repair, cleaning and restoring company does work for many of the area's leather furniture manufacturers. Cuts and scratches are repaired by blending liquid urethane compounds into the leather, then recoloring and sanding the area so the patch is almost invisible. The charge begins at $125 for cuts and $75 for scratches. Leather is also restored by staining and refinishing the surface. Restoration charges begin at $175 for a small chair and can go up to $1,500 for a Chesterfield sofa. Though Richard Daly, company president, finds the results irregular, he will repair and restore suede furniture for $75 to $800. New Life also restores leather interiors in new and antique automobiles.
Charges range from $50 to $7,000. On-site estimates cost $30. The fee is applicable to the restoration cost. Jobs take one to four weeks. Robert Falotico Studios, 521 East 72d Street at York Avenue, 737-4451, 8:30 A.M. to 4 P.M. Monday through Friday, by appointmentThis workshop specializes in conservation and restoration of leather, and has done jobs for museums and auction houses. The owner, Robert Falotico, will replace, color and dye leather for $8 a square foot plus a $50 color-matching charge. Replacement of cracked, faded or ruined leather on a sofa can run to $3,000 or more. Depending on the size of the insert, he will restore the leather on antique folding screens and repaint the artwork for $1,000 and up. He will also replace leather desk tops and redo the tooling in 23-karat gold leaf for $50 and up. The studio will not repair or refinish the wooden portion of any furniture. Estimates cost $50, which is deductible from the labor charge. Jobs on desks take one to two weeks, color matching jobs six to eight weeks.
