These cylinders seem to be made well. They are called "universal fit" but I found that the outer diameter of my exisiting cylinder case (the black part) was very slightly larger than this replacement unit. When I attempted to simply set the new unit into the chair's plastic roller base, the cylinder would wobble slightly inside the roller base when I sat in the chair, which was annoying. But, by removing the retainer clip (at the base of the black slide casing) and extracting the gas cylinder along with the washers and swivel rollers, I was able to transplant everything into the original black slide casing. The retainer clip is a bit tricky to work with but it is not rocket science. You will need a small screwdriver to slide it out of the groove and a small pair of channel locks to slide it back into its groove. Says it fits all box store chairs, and it fit my older chair bought in Big Lots. Seems to be a high quality part - works smoothly. Time will tell how it holds up, but compared to a new chair it's a bargain.
YouTube videos are there to help - probably saves folks a lot of headaches trying to remove the old part using guess work. Perfect for generic office chair Youtube videos make installation a cinch-- all I used was a pipe wrench and hammer! Works well, but not for all chairs I bought this for an older Aeron chair. The actuator rod at the top of the cylinder is too long, the mechanism in the chair keeps it depressed, so it just goes down when I sit in the chair. However, someone in the office with a non-Aeron chair had a bad cylinder, they are quite happy. Self repair and save!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good value and easy to use to repair your chair.
