Our latest press release Nationwide's new Belfast branch launches school competition Nationwide Building Society has today announced the launch of a school poetry competition1 in Belfast, alongside the unveiling of the new branch on Donegall Place.

Finding budding poets in Belfast The competition, which runs from Tuesday 21 February – Friday 24 March 2017, is open to school children in primary years 6 and 7, and is asking them to submit a poem about what they love about their home city Belfast. The theme of the poetry competition runs alongside the Society’s recent advertising campaign, which sees spoken word artists perform a poem about different topics that are important to them. The new branch, which has been built to meet the needs of the local community has helped formulate the poetry competition, to get children thinking creatively about what makes their community so special. The competition, with a prize of £2,000 worth of technology for the winning entrant’s school, will be selected from a panel of judges including Laurie Bolger, one of the poets who has featured in the Society’s Voices campaign2. The branch has already been involved with a few of the schools within the area, helping out with Nationwide’s Number Crunchers programme - a volunteering scheme that supports children in primary schools to help them improve their number skills.

Staff at the branch have supported local schools including Our Lady Queen of Peace Primary School and Our Lady’s Girls Primary School. The Society, which has around 71,000 members in Belfast, has had a presence in the area since 1941, and officially opens its new location. The branch, which is 75 per cent larger than the previous Bedford Street premises, contains all the latest innovations Nationwide offers to customers including Nationwide NOW3, together with the personal service so many value in an increasingly digital age. The new location has also been trialling Nationwide radio, a station specifically set up for Society’s branch network having received positive feedback from members. Jeff Watson, Nationwide’s Area Director for Northern Ireland & Northern England, said: “We are delighted to have opened a new branch in Belfast, which offers members innovative new technology as well as the face-to-face service we know our customers like. This is particularly important to us as members are always telling us that they still want to be able to speak to someone in person, particularly when making key financial decisions in life.

Our new branch, its new design and our investment in technology like Nationwide NOW makes things even easier for customers to do business with us, how and when they want. The team here are looking forward to welcoming new and existing customers into the new branch.” Gayle Clark, Nationwide Belfast City Senior Branch Manager commented: ’It’s great to see the branch fully up and running for our customers where we can deliver the service we are passionate about, but at the same time with ease and flexibility to suit our customers banking needs. Having a strong mix of people and access to a wider range of services is really important to our members. We know people want to do business with us in a way that best suits them, which might mean using different channels for different purposes, and we want to support customers to do this here.” Nationwide have added a further two Nationwide NOW terminals from the previous Bedford Street offering, enabling more customers to be seen at a time which suits them.
