The Job: I’m getting rid of a mattress and box spring after buying a hardly used set from a friend. (Mattresses and boxsprings must be recycled in Vancouver – who knew?). I’m travelling from the West End to mattress recycing place in South Burnaby, 21 km one way. Cost with U-Haul: $19.50 flat fee plus $0.49 per km, plus environmental fee of $1.00 plus the drop-off charge of $25. Total 66.08, and I have to do it myself. Cost with Canadian Mattress Recyclers: $30 for the two items plus $60 for the pick-up fee. Total: $90.00, and it’s done for me. Cost with Modo cargo van as a Casual Member: $7.50/hour, plus $3/hour for premium vehicle, estimate 2 hours, so $21, with kilometres included (up to 150 km), plus the drop-off charge of $25. Total $46.00, and I do it myself. Cost with Modo truck as a Casual Member: $7.50/hour, estimate 2 hours, so $15, with kilometres included (up to 150 km), plus the drop-off charge of $25. Total $40.00, and I do it myself. Even with purchasing a Casual membership at Modo, which I did not have prior to having this job to do, which costs an additional $70 (which includes the $50 annual membership and $20 one-time registration fees), for a total $110-116 (depending on whether I use a cargo van or truck), it is only slightly more than the “have it done for me” option of the removal guys AND I get a whole year to try out Modo with my sweety

and to have fun, and really think about getting rid of my car. So I am now a Modo member and will be getting rid of the mattress and box spring this weekend. Thanks to Paul and to all the other members who entered our contest to win $100 in free driving credits by sharing the cost comparison between Modo’s new cargo van option and the other options in the region! Congrats to Paul for having the winning entry – Wahoo! Below find an update from Paul about which option he went with: I ended up using a Modo pick-up truck for the job, and did the drop-off at the Coquitlam transfer station, so the cost was a little less. I’ve attached a photo of me beside my first use of a modo vehicle with the mattress loaded. I did the job with a buddy. The trip went off without a hitch. Thanks for your work at Modo. Am proud to be joining the ranks of your members.Tips For Buying A New Mattress 05/28/2015 3:29 pm EDT 06/23/2015 1:59 pm EDT In the market for a new mattress?

In a sea of quilted beige cushion tops, it can be difficult to find the perfect mattress for your needs. Sure, we all know the basics: if you have a bad back, firmer is better, but if you want something that's cozy, foam is perfect for you. But even with the basics covered, a new poll by online mattress retailer Casper suggests Canadians just can't stand shopping for new mattresses, with more than 30 per cent saying they'd rather be nursing a hangover. We can only assume they based the study on "The Hangover."Testing out mattresses doesn't seem like it would cause nightmares, but in a press release, Casper claimed only 22 per cent of Canadians actually found buying a mattress in store helpful. On the flip side, more than 40 per cent admit that having an extended period to try out the mattress at home would make buying a mattress much more enjoyable.Regardless of how you're doing it, buying a new mattress doesn't have to be complicated. In the slideshow below, we provide seven tips to help you find the perfect mattress.

And if you're still struggling to find the right fit, we've also included our five favourite mattresses that will make you want to spend the whole day in bed.Essentia VancouverCome try organic mattresses and the only natural memory foam mattresses in the world for yourself at our Vancouver mattress store in the heart of Kitsilano. 2144 W 4th Ave Opening HoursMonday10:00 - 6:00Tuesday10:00 - 6:00Wednesday10:00 - 6:00Thursday10:00 - 7:00Friday10:00 - 7:00Saturday10:00 - 6:00Sunday11:00 - 5:00 Overview  Popular in Vancouver for over 5 years now, we're very happy to have a home in beautiful Kitsilano. Come experience what our organic mattresses and natural memory foam mattresses are all about. Our organic mattresses are made with certified organic latex foam and our natural memory foam mattresses provide the best of both worlds, luxurious comfort and health. Best of all, Essentia mattresses are made in Canada by the Essentia team. Most of our natural latex mattresses are made with our proprietary natural memory foam making them free of toxins commonly found in regular memory foam mattresses or spring mattresses.

Even the best organic mattresses and latex mattresses miss the mark when it comes to comfort. That's usually because they top them with wool which isn't pressure relieving. Your hips and shoulders feel this most. This is why we invented and patented a natural memory foam, a pressure relieving natural latex foam mattress that is not only natural but supremely comfortable as well. Pressure relief is measurable. Latex mattresses, or even your top-of-the-line spring mattresses offer a pressure relief measured at 30+ mmhg. Essentia mattresses delivery pressure relief of 12.25 mmhg. Healthcare industry considered anything under 32mmhg pressure relieving. Your body will feel the difference with an Essentia latex mattress. Come try these Canadian made memory foam mattresses for yourself. No more aches and pains in the morningBy Robert I can honestly say this is the most comfortable and restful bed I have ever slept on. It took about a week to adjust to the new bed but once my body got used to 100% support in all the right areas its been magical.

No more aches and pains in the morning and as result feeling fully rested when I awake. I would also strongly recommend to anyone thinking of buying a bed to buy the pillows, they are the best pillows ever.Angelo was very patient as I took a long time to make the investment in my new bed having visited the store in Vancouver several times over the course of a few years. When I had a small problem with the courier delivering the bed Angelo took action to make me feel better. I can't say enough about his service and the bonus from my perspective is buying a product manufactured right here in Canada. I am sleeping better than I have been in a long time. I purchased the Classic 8 in January of this year, deciding to take advantage of a year end sale. I placed the call and ended up talking to Angelo at the Essentia store in Vancouver. He answered all my questions in helping me decide what model would be best for me. I placed the order with him and 3 weeks later I was sleeping on my new Classic 8.

It did take about 3 weeks to adjust to the different style of mattress but now it is totally comfortable and I am sleeping better than I have been in a long time. The Ergonomic pillow I ordered is the most comfortable pillow I have ever used. Do yourself a favor and order this pillow if you purchase an Essentia mattress. The staff at the Kitsilano store were greatBy Cheralyn Never wrote a review before, but as I use them a lot when purchasing items I thought I would try my hand at it! We bought a king size Beausommet mattress and absolutely love it. I sleep so well, despite having a 6-week old baby next to me. The staff at the Kitsilano store were great, not pushy at all and very knowledgeable. She left us alone while we spent our time laying on all the different mattresses and choosing which was best for us. The mattress was also delivered sooner than we expected - I think it took just over 2 weeks. Needless to say the mattresses are expensive, but when you consider that they are meant to last 20-25 years it ends up being comparable cost-wise to a standard mattress, plus it's much healthier for you!
