Visit our Gallery and Sculpture Garden to see the wide variety of unique garden art to compliment your home or business.Do you own a chair that you absolutely love and envisage passing down through the family? I have long coveted the Butterfly Chair (also known as the BKF chair), but after spying the Tripolina Chair I think it may have just been bumped from the top spot (but holding a close 2nd place)! The original timber framed folding Tripolina Chair was first made by the firm of Viganò in Tripoli, Libya in the late 18th Century made from natural wood and camel or cowhide.  The clearly stylish Italian expatriate market used them as camping chairs in the soft sand.   Although it is also reported the chair was designed fro English troops.  Nowadays, the chair has been replicated with updated canvas and various leather covers by designers across the globe.  The integrity of the frame however remains the same, and over 100 years on still looks fantastic!I was surprised to learn the design of the Tripolina Chair was used as the inspiration behind the metal framed Butterfly Chair created later in 1938.
