It is approximately a 3.5 hour drive north west of Campbell River to Fair Harbour, and a 40 minute boat ride out to our lodge.  Or we can book you a flight on a float place from Campbell River/Comox/Vancouver directly to Kyuquot.  We also have a shuttle service to and from the Comox Airport. How do we get to Rugged Point Lodge Here are a few different options to getting to Rugged Point Lodge: Driving from Vancouver   – Take BC ferry from either Horseshoe bay or Tsawassen terminal to Departure bay Nanaimo.  Head north on island highway towards Campbell River.  Follow directions from Campbell River below. Driving from Comox airport or Cambpell River airport – Head North on Hwy. 19 towards Port Hardy (NOT towards Gold River)  You will pass Sayward (great place to fuel up) and Woss.  20km past Woss turn left onto the Zeballos Junction  (gravel logging road).  Follow the signs to Fair Harbour, we will be there to pick you up by boat. Shuttle – A very easy and convenient way to get your group to Fair Harbour – Shuttle service from airport and/or hotel to Fair Harbour return, available for groups of 6- 12.




Please contact us for info and pricing. Fly – Fly directly to our dock on a float plane.  It is possible to fly out of any of these ports, Vancouver, Seattle,  Victoria,  Nanaimo, Comox, Campbell River, or Port Hardy directly to our lodge. What time do you pick us up in Fair Harbour on arrival day?  And what time are we dropped off on departure day? During our ocean fishing season June – September, pick up time in Fair Harbour is at 1:30 pm on your day of arrival.  You want to be leaving Campbell River around 10:00am to make our pick up time.  If you are flying into the Comox Aiport or Campbell River Airport on your day of arrival, make sure to book your rental vehicle in advance and book the earliest flight you can find.  On your day of departure, we drop you off in Fair Harbour around 11:00am  (leaving the lodge around 10:15 am).  If you need to leave earlier for because of travel arrangements we can leave the lodge anytime that morning. During our river fly fishing season September – October, pick up at Fair Harbour is at 3:30pm. 




You want to be leaving Campbell River around 12:00.  If your flight is later, we are flexible and can arrange a later pick up time, just let us know in advance. When is the best time to fish in Kyuquot Sound? Rugged Point lodge is open from the beginning of June until the end of October.   During June, July, August and mid- September we are fishing the ocean targeting Salmon, Halibut, Lingcod and Albacore Tuna.  The fishing is very consistent throughout these summer months. June is best for Chinook, Halibut and Lingcod, July is best for Chinook,  Coho, Halibut and Lingcod.  August is best for Chinook, Coho, Halibut, Lingcod and (late August) Albacore Tuna.  Early September is best for Albacore Tuna, Coho, Halibut and Lingcod. From mid-September until the end of October we are open for catch and release fly fishing for wild Coho Salmon on the rivers. How many guests can stay at Rugged Point Lodge? Rugged Point Lodge can comfortably accommodate 12 anglers maximum.




We have 6 guests rooms all with private washrooms and showers. Each room sleeps 2 guests, two twin beds or a king bed for couples. (If needed one of our rooms has a bunk bed and is able to sleep 3 guests). During our river fly fishing season we can accommodate 8 anglers maximum. How many fish can I take home? You can retain 8 salmon, 2 halibut and 6 lingcod per person per trip, 4 of those salmon can be Chinook and the rest can be Coho, Pink, Chum or Sockeye. Most guests will limit out on Chinook and Halibut.  If you want to target Albacore Tuna your limit is 20 per day, but realistically most guests keep 6-10 total possession.  Our guests usually leave with between 100- 120lbs of fish per person. Do you process our fish? SRP Processing is a new fish processor right in Kyuquot Sound!  Offering daily catch services, filleting, portioning, vacuum packing and flash freezing.  Nice and simple, your fish will be ready for you on departure day!   The other option is we bag, tag and ice your fish and when you leave you drop your fish off at High Tide Seafood’s in Campbell River and get them processed. 




It is possible to get them vacuum packed and flash frozen overnight, but if you want any smoking done you will have to drop them off and get your fish shipped to you.  The ladies at High Tide Seafood’s do a great job, and will take care of you. What do we need to bring? Saltwater fishing license with salmon stamp (for ocean) and fresh water license (for river- no tags needed) , if you do not have a license and don’t have any time to get one, they can easily be purchased online. Here are the links for Freshwater License and Saltwater License Personal toiletries, clothing that can be layered (weather is unpredictable) camera, sunglasses (very important), hat, sunscreen.  We have rain gear and boots available for use, it is outer wear Helly Hansen and is not warm. Large coolers to transport your fish.  We have coolers available for use for drop off at High Tide Seafood in Campbell River, and also have styrofoam coolers available for sale. Motion sickness prevention medication  TRANSDERM – V (Ear Patches)




Bring your own booze.  We supply non alcoholic drinks and mix. What things do I need to bring for ocean fishing? Clothing that can be layered (weather is unpredictable) Bring your own booze Motion sickness prevention medication    TRANSDERM – V   (Ear patches) Fishing license with salmon stamp (Make sure you print your actual licence and not your receipt) Personal Toiletries, camera, day bag etc. Large cooler for transporting fish, if needed. If you want your fish processed, they also sell airplane approved cooler boxes for transporting your fish home with you. We supply all meals, accommodation, transportation to and from Fair Harbour (or flights on a fly in trip) boats, guides, gear and rain gear. What things do I need to bring for river fly fishing? Warm clothing that can be layered underneath your waders with a waterproof outer jacket Waders and wading boots (no cleats allowed or needed) Recommended fly rod to bring –  9ft. 8wt. Preferred sage rod.  




Spey and switch rods, if you have them bring them they can be a lot of fun, not necessary! Recommended fly reels to bring – Any good quality reel with a decent drag will work -100 yards 20lb backing minimum. Preferred reel – 3.8 Islander Recommended fly lines to bring –Teeney 200gr or 300gr sink tip (best all around) Tippets and leaders 10lb – 20lb will suffice for almost all conditions Polarized sunglasses  *Very Important* Amber lens seems to work best in our conditions. Personal Toiletries, camera etc. Fresh water fishing licence- No Tags Required Small waterproof day bag for personal accessories during fishing outings. Bring your own Booze We have fly rods and lines available for rent if needed and fly lines for sale in our gift shop.  We also supply flies for these trips. What kind of boats do you fish in and how many people per boat? Our fleet consists of four 23ft Grady White Gulfstreams, all fully guided with gear included, all boats set up the same including islander MR3 reels and Penn International Halibut reels.
