BTS (Hangul: 방탄소년단 ; RR: Bangtan Sonyeondan), also known as Bangtan Boys, is a seven-member South Korean boy vocal group formed by Hybe Corporation. The name later became an acronym for Beyond The Scene in July 2017. On 12 June 2013, they performed the song "No More Dream" from their original album 2 Cool 4 Skool in support of their debut on 13 June 2013. They won New Artist of the Year awards for the song "No More Dream", including at the 2013 Melon Music Awards and Gold Disc Awards as well as the 2014 Seoul Music Awards. The group's name, BTS, is an abbreviation of the Korean expression Bangtan Sonyeondan (Hangul: 방탄소년단 ; Hanja: 防彈少年團), literally meaning "Bulletproof Boy Scouts". The name was conceptualized with the thought that BTS would block the stereotypes, criticisms, and expectations that target teenagers like bullets and protect the values ​​and ideals of today's youth. In Japan, they are known as Bōdan Shōnendan (防弾少年団), which translates the same. In July 2017, BTS added that in addition to Bangtan Sonyeondan or Bulletproof Boy Scouts, this name also stands for "Beyond the Scene" as part of their new identity.
