WRAGS works in partnership with Sleep Country Canada and The Brick to provide mattresses to those in need. We believe it is important that WRAGS be accountable to its members, employees and the community at large and as such encourage comments and suggestions. Mattresses provided by Sleep Country and The Brick are stored in WRAGS' warehouse and are available to the public. In addition, WRAGS is concerned about the environment and works with The Brick to ensure the mattresses that are not in good condition are disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner. WRAGS is a non-profit organization incorporated in November 1992 whose mandate is to assist people in need. It was created to provide advocacy services at no cost to low income persons. WRAGS has expanded and been refined over the years. In the late 1990s, WRAGS partnered with Sleep Country Canada to provide beds free of charge to those in need.

On December 31, 2002, the WRAGS advocacy program was sadly forced to close down due to government cut backs to funding for these programs. After many attempts to regain funding through government and other programs, WRAGS was unable to secure the necessary funding to keep the advocacy program operating. WRAGS has been developing a recycling program for beds no longer in a condition for re-use. While WRAGS has dramatically reduced the number of beds going to landfills, there remain many that still find their way to the dump. We continue to seek new sources for re-used beds which might otherwise find their way to landfills and examine ways to break down beds not suitable for re-use so that their individual components can be recycled. This will be a continual ongoing exercise. WRAGS is also currently looking at possible ways to work with other charities and non-profit groups to expand our services or situations where there may be synergies between different groups. For other uses, see Brick (disambiguation).

This article is about a retailer. For the bar and restaurant, see Northern Exposure. The Brick Ltd. is a Canadian retailer of furniture, mattresses, appliances and home electronics. The company was founded as The Brick Warehouse LP by brothers, John, Fred, and Bill Comrie. The first warehouse opened on September 1, 1971 in Edmonton, Alberta. Its first expansion was to Fort McMurray, Alberta in the 1970s and later acquired a competitor in the city of Calgary. Over the past 35 years, The Brick has expanded across Canada and now operates 135 retail stores (including 20 franchise locations) in the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, the Yukon and the Northwest Territories. (Quebec stores are branded simply as Brick.) In addition, the Brick Group Income Fund operates distribution centres in Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Toronto and Montreal. In March 2004, the company acquired United Furniture Warehouse which had 81 locations throughout Canada at the time.

[4] In 2006, 24 stores were rebranded as "The Brick" in a strategic attempt to save on advertising costs and increase sales. On November 11, 2012, The Brick announced that competitor Leon's would acquire the company for $700 million subject to approval of shareholders. Following the acquisition, Leon's plans to maintain the two separate chains. In November 2012, The Brick agreed to pay $2.1 million to settle a class-action lawsuit filed by consumer rights group Option consommateurs in 2009, over claims the retailer's advertising was misleading. ^ About The Brick ^ a b c d ^ Huffington Post Canada. Lots of favoritism and gossip like no other workplace I've ever been too, pretty much like high school.

Wouldn't recommend working at the brick at all or buying from them. Once I find another job, I am gone in a second, I won't even give them 2 weeks notice because of the stress they brought upon me at the workplace. Feb 26, 2017 I have been working at The Brick full-time Pros Challenging Work environment, and room for advancement. Many contests and incentive to strive further. The amount of work they expect does not reflect the salary given for managers. Advice to Management Higher budgets for more office and warehouse employees. Days off should be a day OFF and not a 'day to be away and still take numerous calls' Feb 26, 2017 Pros Great company, with family benefits. Cons Do not compensate good work ethic. Advice to Management Take of your good staff, that make the company move forward. The community relies on everyone sharing – Add Anonymous Review Feb 19, 2017 Pros good team to work withfamilyfree lunches on VIP days Cons hecticstay over time to finish tasksnot enough workers Advice to Management hire more workers Feb 13, 2017 Helpful (1) I have been working at The Brick full-time (More than a year) Pros The best part about this job is helping customers pick out their furniture and appliances.

Our location attracts a fair number of newcomers and I experience the joy of people furnishing their first homes on a daily basis. Also, there is cool stuff like new TVs and soundbars to play with and regular training and product knowledge on these products. Cons The cons far outweigh the pros:Management: they have little training and little or no empathy with staff and customers. Most managers at our location run the place like mini-Dictators with a 'my way or the highway' autocratic way of functioning disregarding their own company's policy. There is constant drama with sales staff and customers on a daily basis. Also, there is Senior Staff whose only job apart from hogging sales is to bully the new associates- in direct contradiction to the Senior program which is about mentoring new staff. mission structure has been scaled back so unless you have good traffic at your location there would be many days where you make nothing before you go home. Low pay and long waiting times for customers don't make the job worth it.

Advice to Management Know before you speak - understand company policy and agree amongst yourselves first as to what it means before you communicate it to the general staff.Level the playing field for all staff by dismantling existing power structures. This way new people won't quit after a week or two in sales there. Jan 30, 2017 I worked at The Brick full-time Pros Very laid back and open management team. Friendly environment for the most part. Tough at first but once you start making connections with clients, things begin to roll out smoothly Cons Information can at first seem daunting but after you pick up on the details, it becomes easier. Staff can sometimes be real moody and packed with an attitude. Advice to Management Keep it up. Provide more training for new staff members. Compensation rate should be increased in my opinion. Jan 28, 2017 I have been working at The Brick full-time (Less than a year) Pros Most of the time I can work at my own pace, no guilt tripping for making a coffee or taking a washroom break.

Working independently at most times - unless needing managerial approval. Cons Customer service is complicated - training isn't very in depth and when you ask questions management gets annoyed and acts like you should already know. Management gets promoted without enough training as well, they're stressed - so they stress you out.Working with third party services such as vendors, technicians and delivery service means less control of products and services for our customers.Brick policies are very strict. Advice to Management Management is all sales - very little customer service. It would be great to see managers being more flexible to the customers. Mar 1, 2017 I worked at The Brick full-time (More than a year) Pros Not many pros to be honest, but there is a potential of making very good money in this store if you are very greedy, rude, and if you can bring your own customers to the store. If you can speak a second language or a language based on the community that lives around the store, you can increase the chances of getting a deal.
