Q: What is a bot?

A: It's a small third-party program that runs in Telegram and can do anything. From showing you pictures of possums on request to handling HTML formatting in your personal channel, bot powers are limited only by the people who develop them.

Q: Can I develop one?

A: Sure, as long as you know at least a bit about computer programming. Our information on bot development is over here.

Q: Are they safe?

A: Although they are created by third parties and not overseen by Telegram, bots are completely safe. They can only see your public username and photo and see messages that you send them. A bot can't snoop on your conversations or see your phone number so don't worry about that.
