I am looking at the Novaform Gel Sleep Memory Foam mattress. How is the gel memory foam topper made? I would like to know all of the contents because I have lung disease and concerns about the products used in the gel topper if it would affect my breathing and could possible deteriorate my lung disease. Also a friend bought me the gel pillow. Would appreciate an immediate reply. Despite all the dire reviews, not all foam is created equally. Novafoam however will have a very very strong chemical off-gassing and I would avoid it with your condition. While I agree the natural beds would be best, some people either don't have the money to afford something like OMI, are allergic to latex or just can't afford it. There are memory foams that are not toxic and don't use chemicals to pass the fire retardant laws. There are a couple of brands I carry that are Certipur certified and have either little to no scent and use non-toxic fire barriers, and they are more affordable. I am not one for self-promotion here, but if you Google "non-toxic memory foam mattress" you will find beds such as the foam beds from Jeffco or Bed in a Box that are tested hypoallergenic and tested non-toxic.

I agree with the replies here regarding that brand of memory foam. However, not all memory foam is created equal. Your question did not state whether it was budget, feel or referral that brought you to Novaform so I'll try to address budget and feel. First, the feel of memory foam: some people love it some people hate it. Personally, I like the way you sink into memory foam and how it forms around you. Tossing and turning is reduced so you sleep more soundly. I notice you're in Cornwall, ON. There is a Canadian manufacturer of memory foam called Zedbed. They use more water and soy than any other brand thus eliminating that off-gassing mentioned here. Zedbed is the only Canadian manufacturer of their own memory foam and so you know, with Canada's strict regulations on EVERYTHING, it's the safest memory foam around. Queen sets start at $2099.A terrific way to try and get more for your money is considering buying a less expensive innerspring mattress without any pillowtop or eurotop and then adding a topper.

In this case, if you still prefer the feel of memory foam, I would recommend an organic latex SLOW response topper in 2 or 3 inches from Pure LatexBLISS. You can mimic the feel of a memory foam mattress for a fraction of the price ($1000-$2000 for a queen set). If you were not referred to this mattress, then please consider an all latex mattress, truly the cleanest option of all. If you can go organic you will rid your sleeping environment of almost all dyes, toxins and chemicals. The gel isn't your worry. It's the memory foam you should be avoiding. Memory foam consists of 61 chemicals, some of which are toxic. It off gasses those toxic chemicals, which, for most people, attack your respiratory system. Memory foam is a dangerous product for everyone. For you, it could very well be deadly. Alice, memory foam is basically a "gasoline brick," it is true there are 61 chemicals in these beds some of them are known carcinogens. If you are susceptible to off gassing the best way to go is Organic Latex from OMI, they have the purest mattress on the market.

If you are looking at gel because it makes memory foam mattresses sleep cooler then you are buying a band aid for a problem you don't need to create by buying a memory foam mattress. If you want to sleep cooler, get rid of your synthetic petroleum oil based mattress and go with all natural fibers. Such as organic cotton, wool and 100% all natural latex. Avoid Natural latex (means synthetic blend) the chemicals in that is toxic to the lungs, liver and brain. You don't need to worry about going with 100% all natural latex rubber. Products made from God are far superior to man made products made in a chemical factory. Login/Signup to Post Your Answer :x IN SEPT 07 I PURCHASED TEMPUR-PEDIC BED -IT STILL STINKS.I HAVE WOKEN UP MOST MORNINGS FEELING LIKE I DID NOT SLEEP AT ALL, AND THERE IS ALMOST ALWAYS A NAGGING HEADACHE AND PERSISTANT COUGH. MY FOUR YEAR SON HAS TAKEN TO SLEEPING IN MY BED BECAUSE IT SO MUCH MORE FULL OF COMFORT THAN HIS. IN THE TIME THAT I HAVE HAD THIS BED THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE SO WONDERFUL, MY FOUR YEAR OLD HAS GONE TO THE ER THREE TIMES BECAUSE HE COULD NOT BREATH.

I NEVER WOULD HAVE MADE ALL THE CONNECTIONS IF I HAD NOT BEEN TRYING TO GET INFO ON LINE RE THE TERRIBLE SMELL. THE THINGS I HAVE READ ONLINE ARE REALLY BAD I AM HOPING THAT THEY WILL DO THE RIGHT THING BUT WHEN I CONTACTED CUSTOMER SERVICE TODAY I WAS TOLD THAT THE BED WOULD BE REPLACED AND THE THE CHEMICALS ARE NOT HAZARDOUS TO MY HEALTH. TRY TELLING THAT TO MY SON TO ME, AND TO THE HUNDREDS OF OTHER PEOPLE BEFORE ME THAT HAVE HAD SIMILIAR AND SOME TIMES WORSE SYSMTOMS ALL BECAUSE OF A BED. VikingPastorDoes anyone know if any actions (lawsuit, organized advocacy etc) have been attempted? The same reason: "Tempurpedic should not be allowed to sell these products, or at least not without a BIG warning sign on it." If I knew so many people had skin allergies to the materials, i would never have bought it. My hope of healing my insomnia is gone, now, I've already felt mentally exhaused to deal with this so called space-science mattress.Serta, Sleep Number top Consumer Reports mattress ratings

, February 11, 2014 YONKERS, N.Y. — Mattresses by Serta and Sleep Number top the latest list of mattress ratings issued by Consumer Reports. Meanwhile, the top-rated mattress retailer is once again Cleveland-based Original Mattress Factory, a factory-direct operator. Consumer Reports, the influential consumer products evaluation company, published its latest lists of mattress and retail ratings in its March issue. A Serta Perfect Day iSeries mattress tops the innerspring list, while a Sleep Number pillowtop mattress tops the memory foam list.Other recommended innerspring mattresses include models by Beautyrest, Charles P. Rogers, Sealy, and two by Stearns & Foster. Other recommended memory foam mattresses include a Novaform model at Costco, a Bob's Discount Furniture Bob-O-Pedic model, and the Tempur-Pedic Simplicity. The company also has ratings for 15 mattress retailers, rating Sleepy's, one of the industry's largest retailers, last on the list. The retail ratings, based on 6,105 shopping experiences at walk-in mattress stores between 2011 and June 2013, "reflect subscribers' experience but not necessarily those of the general population," the publication said.

It rated the retailers on reader scores, which reflect overall satisfaction with a retailer, according to Consumer Reports.Costco was No. 2 on the retail ratings list, followed by No. 3 Ikea, No. 4 Denver Mattress Co., No. 5 Tempur-Pedic Store, No. 6 Select Comfort Store, No. 7 Sleep Train, No. 8 Macy's, No. 9 Mattress Firm and No. 10 Ashley Furniture.Rounding out the retail list were No. 11 Sears, No. 12 Mattress Warehouse, No. 13 Sam's Club, No. 14 Mattress Discounter, and No. 15 Sleepy's.The latest retail ratings are similar to those published by Consumer Reports in its August 2012 issue, which rated Original Mattress Factory No. 1, Costco No. 2 and Denver Mattress No. 3. The 2012 list also had Sleepy's in the No. 15 spot, last on the list. The mattress ratings are based on tests conducted by Consumer Reports in which dozens of electronic sensors are used "to precisely and repeatedly measure how well each mattress supports the spine by maintaining its natural curve when you're on your back and keeping it horizontal when you're on your side," the publication said.

It said the overall scores for mattresses mainly reflect side and back support, durability and stability. The six recommended innerspring mattresses are the No. 1 Serta Perfect Day iSeries Applause, the No. 2 Beautyrest Recharge Palisades Court Luxury Firm Pillowtop, the No. 3 Charles P.
