With a third child on the way, we made the decision to put my older two kids (three years and one-and-a-half years) into a room together on bunk beds. We purchased the Bedz King Twin Over Twin Stairway Bunk Bed from Amazon. After using the bunk beds for the past two weeks, we are so happy with our choice. My kids love them, they look gorgeous, and they have built-in storage areas– these are definitely among the best bunk beds for little kids.
What sold us on this particular set of bunk beds was the fact that it has stairs, rather than the traditional ladder. Obviously, my kids are way too young to do the whole ladder thing. They can totally handle them. There are railings for them to hold onto, plus a strip of grip tape on each stair (that blackish line you see on each stair). “Well, I have a masters degree in engineering,” he said. “So I wouldn’t say it was difficult. It took four hours of labor, though.” Neither of my kids are afraid to climb up to the top bunk. It did take my daughter a few nights to agree to sleep up there, but now she does it every night. Getting my son into his bottom bunk is another story…for a later date. There are three options for under the bottom bunk: no drawer (just open space), a trundle bed drawer, or two storage drawers. We chose a trundle bed drawer so that we have the option to use it with a trundle bed in the future, but for now, we can still fill it up with stuff and use it as one big regular drawer.
If you choose no drawer, you knock at least $100 off the price. Check out this storage on the side of the stairs! I was able to cram about 15 stuffed animals into the smaller storage space and I stowed some pirate ships and dollhouses in the bottom space. Definitely a bonus to getting this bed! -Comes in four colors: white, honey, cappuccino, and espresso -Three options for under the bottom bunk: no bottom drawer (takes about $100 off the price), trundle bed drawer, or two under-the-bed storage drawers -Stairs have three pull-out drawers. -Stairs can go on either side of the bed, right or left. -Two more storage areas on side of stairs. -Anti-slip pads (grip tape) on each stair to minimize slips and falls. -Requires a screwdriver to build; my husband advises a drill or a screw gun. -If you have a thicker rug directly next to the bottom drawers, they will not pull out (we will have to move our rug or just store stuff that we don’t need to access every day).
