The newest addition to the grand list of Coolest Things Ever is being unveiled in New York today: the Lego X-Wing, the largest Lego model ever built. The model of the classic Star Wars fighter being unveiled in Times Square has a wingspan of 44 feet and comes complete with R2-D2 and a full range of sound effects. It’s a super-duper-sized version of Star Wars Lego starfighter set #9493 and was made with 5,335,200 Lego bricks. That, according to Lego, makes it the largest model ever built, eclipsing the Lego robot at the Mall of America by some 2 million bricks. This replica of the Rebel Alliance dogfighter is 42 times the size of the Lego version we’ve all built and a bit bigger than a real X-Wing. (Yes, yes, we know they’re not real. Just go with it.) The X-Wing Luke Skywalker and his fellow rebels flew was about 41 feet long, 2 feet shorter than this Lego masterpiece. The X-Wing was built at the Lego Model Shop at the company’s facility in Kladno, Czech Republic. It took 32 “master builders” (Note: This is a real job, and we’re preparing our resumés.) 17,336 man-hours to construct the X-Wing.

Plans for the model were created using Lego’s proprietary 3-D design software, and the construction team had to work with a team of structural engineers to ensure that the model was safe, master builder Erik Varszegi told Wired. “This has been a wild and exciting project for us, and it’s taken an international team of designers, engineers, structural consultants, model builders, and logistics personal over a year to bring this model from a conception to reality,” Varszegi said in an email. “In one respect, designing it was the ‘easy’ part, as we were creating a scaled version of an actual toy construction set.” Once completed, the model — which weighs 45,980 pounds — was broken down into 34 pieces to be shipped to New York by boat (the voyage took two boats two months to complete). Lest the West Coast feel left out, the starfighter is coming to Legoland California after its tenure in Times Square and will remain there until the end of the year. Twenty-three tons is a whole lot of anything, especially Lego bricks, but much of the model’s weight lies in the model’s steel skeleton, which it needed in order to withstand the vibrations from the subway that runs beneath Duffy Square in Manhattan and any seismic activity it could face in Southern California.

While a slightly larger-than-lifesize Lego X-Wing would be awesome even if were made for no particular reason at all, the model was built to celebrate the forthcoming premiere of the latest Lego Star Wars series The Yoda Chronicles — a three-part animated miniseries launching on Cartoon Network next Wednesday. That’s the official reason this was built, but we wouldn’t be surprised if Lego made this thing just for the thrill. “My fellow Master Builders and I are always looking for a challenge — and for projects that push our skills to the next level,” Varszegi said. The team chose the X-Wing because it “is one of the most iconic vehicles in the Star Wars universe and the sheer size and scope of the building and engineering challenges was one we couldn’t resist.” We’re awaiting the day these Lego master builders create a Death Star for this X-Wing to annihilate.LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Platforms: Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo Wii U, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Windows, Xbox 360, Xbox One

one of the best lego games I ever playedVerified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-ownedby For the lego game enthusiastsMy son is 7, and absolutely enjoys this game. To be frank, I enjoy playing it with him even at my old age. You wouldn't think so, but I believe these type of games are nice becuase they allow the parent to bomd with the child's interests. These days it's all about technology, and we need to get with the times.Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-ownedby BEST GAME EVER!!!I love this game! It has the best game-play out of any game I have ever played and I love the free roam. If you buy this game you won't be disappointed.Condition: Pre-ownedby My grandson love itGreat value! We are looking where to find this game and finally we found itVerified purchase: Yes | Condition: Newby Good productExcellent product, brand new in sealed package.1 Lego Star Wars: The Complete SagaYou can be Darth Vader fighting Darth Vader. You can replay levels with the best characters.

It re-creates the entire Star Wars in a humorous Lego form. The only thing missing is the seventh Star Wars movie. The original game and still to this day it is the best It has definitely aged in comparison to some of the newer games, but the source material is so strong and the execution is so classic it's still one of the best. Star wars the best - Joaopuffle1 2 Lego Marvel Super Heroes Lego batman 3 might have been close if they let us free world around Gotham but NO we had to run around planets and get dizzy! This should be above Lego Star Wars because there is so much to do! This game is seriously one of the biggest free-roaming games out there, it has classic Lego humour, the plot of the story is pretty decent and it has the biggest character roster of any Lego game to date and most of them have different powers/abilities. Lots and lots and lots of characters, STAN LEE TOO! Best Lego game ever!the concept about 3 gangs that have each different plans is a great idea.they designed the games atmosphere after the animated series and it rocks.the 1989 batman soundtrack fits better than ever!they even let you play the game from the villains perspective!they have all your favorite characters, the only 2 they missed were: firefly and ventrilloquist/scarfaceyou can have fun with a brother/sister/friend and have some challenging puzzles but they aren't near

as fun as Lego Indiana jones 1.but its still fun. I remember when this game first came out I was like wow my favourite super hero is being transformed into a Lego game. I thought that was pretty good. The first Lego game I played and I loved it. its even my 5 year old cousin loves this game. he wont stop making me play it 4 Lego Indiana Jones: The Original AdventuresBeat it 100% and unlocked Han Solo. Fun Star Wars Easter eggs and great levels that stay true to the movies. While Lego Indy 2 has free roam and all four movies, the levels are literally nothing like the movies besides plot. Lego Indiana Jones which first was a movie and now this is great but not great then Lego batman Excellent games that follows the movies well, with lots of great characters and missions. 100% better than the terrible sequel This is exciting game should be higher 5 LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes This is probably the most important lego game for two reasons: one because it started the dialogue in lego games and because it was one of the first lego game with a big free roam

You can play the whole justice league. The plot is good and the levels are interesting to play through. One of the best I am not personally a big fan of this one I say its one of the weaker ones in the story franchises but levels were fun although no map in a low lit gotham your gonna end up lost Played this for hours when it came out 6 LEGO Lord of the Rings I've played and own almost all of the Lego games and this one by far takes the cake. I love the quests and map with the ability to warp to any location. It just makes it so much fun and convenient. Music is awesome, I just put it on and let it play while I'm doing stuff around the house. The most in-depth of the lego games, filled with amazing imagery straight from Tolkien and incredible music played at just the right time, it's simply gorgeous. Great game, dialogue and sound are amazing. I've got 89.7%, all characters and treasures and I'm still not tired of it. It is pure open world need I say more

7 LEGO Star Wars III The Clone Wars I cheat coded everything, but I love the game and gameplay, the graphics, the sound, the characters, all of it. Whoever said it's the worst should play Indiana Jones 2. VERY underrated, the Lego Star Wars games have in general been really fun to play and this is no exception. I've 100% this game twice (something I don't find myself doing with the latest released) and I forse myself coming back to the best Lego game time and time again. Loved there different approach to this game adding three different story lines and new level types The best Lego game with massive battlefields 8 Lego Jurassic World Based on classic scenes from all four films with great humour, you can also play as the dinosaurs too. Must have for dinosaur and Lego fans everywhere, great for all ages. I'd love to see it at No. 8 or so, not Top 5 material, but it's competing with some of the best games ever. Give it some love. This is easy and a lot of fun

9 LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 This was the first lego game I ever played and it was the best! This game is amazing how is it so low down It is fun to do over and over again. Super fun, tons of locations and much more content than most lego games, just checked recently on steam on how many hours I played as a kid, it was 387 hours O_O that's more that 1/2 of all games I've ever played 10 Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham Awesome game like last but they didn't let us drive around which was fun Please add it in Lego batman 4 I have played this and I think it is the best Lego game for a character list I LOVE this game so much I like flash and beast boy Worst lego game I have ever played. 11 LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean Cannot stop playing it, I loved it and still do, despite the fact that I've had 100% on it for ages. First Lego game I played, will always remember it. Captain jack sparrow in Lego form that's awesome 12 LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4

One of my ever favorites. I wouldn't give it a No. 1, but I give it a No. 3 and it's absolutely wonderful, and I've got 32% but am not complaining, that means I can play and play on. This is a great game. Should be in top 5! I like it a lot because of the level creation. How is this 12 it should at least be in top 5 13 Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues I actually loved this game it had so much in it and the cut stories were not really cut they were just as long as the original adventures maybe even longer, it was funnier too, also the ability to create levels was amazing why everyone hated it I don't knowAccolates for this game have so much to learn. No offense, none intended at all, but I opened this game on Christmas, 2011, and popped it in and just was so disappointed. It is the first Lego Game to include open world hub Best LEGO game ever, the haters suck. 14 Lego City Undercover This Lego Grand Theft Auto except with less violence and just as fun as Grand Theft Auto V!

Good graphics fun side missions and a excellent plot with the amazing, funny, and classic Lego humor. If your a Lego video games fan looking for a great Lego game for your wii you this is a reccomdation! This would even for none Lego fans. The 3ds adaption is only 4 stars while the wii you is a perfect 5! If this game was out for more consoles other than the Wii U, I bet it would be much higher on this list. Excellent game with huge open world, great missions, good voice acting, and a boatload of content. Hands down my favorite Lego game since Complete Saga. Has the most detail and best selection of vehicles and characters. The characters don't just make stupid grunts, they actually talk. It also has the biggest map. Lego Grand Theft Auto 15 Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy This game had the best story mode I might be wrong, but wasn't this also for the GBA? 16 Lego Star Wars: The Video Game Why is the foundation of all these games so low it is fun to see how Lego games started off as and the levels were awesome to play them, Except for the Gunship level which was infuriating hard

The only levels I hated on this game was the flying levels those were hard as balls This game is awesome and I think it was the first movie titled Lego video game What about the pod racing, that one was the true phantom menace. 17 The LEGO Movie Videogame The Best Lego Game there is. The game has scene from the movie Not the worst (see Indiana Jones 2) but it is the second-worst and a waste of time indeed.Seriously guys this is a WASTE OF TIME 18 LEGO The Hobbit Definitely my favorite game. While I can see a game such as Lego Marvel above it, or other older games above it, but games like Lord of the Rings, Batman 2, Lego City Undercover, and Harry Potter 5-7. I'd like to see it way higher. I have 52.3% but all the characters and DLC, and the levels are so enticing, great sound, and amen to the guy who said Kili is the best dwarf. How is this so low? It's the best Lego Game! This is definitely the best game I've never played this, and I won't go hating on it for this reason, but Bionicle is one of my least favorite Lego themes.
