I don’t believe anything is “Indestructible”, but some things are more resistant than others.
Which means if you have a “shredder” NEVER, EVER leave your dog alone with any bed… or you could be rushing him in to the vet for obstruction surgery after he eats it… They have started to rate dog toys 0-5 star rating of toughness. They even rate dog beds! if you too have a “special” destructive dog! You can even purchase beds and bed covers here if you don’t mind paying upwards of 60 to 200+. They even make aluminum dog beds although I can’t imagine those are comfortable and beds make out of ballistic materials (yes think “bullet proof”). But I think I am a genius 😉 Okay, so maybe “Genius” is a bit much… but I am pretty proud of myself. I have a very destructive puppy, well he is a year old now, but he acts like a puppy! y dogs prefer the XL (they have to have XL split chews). In fact at one point I had to take away all of his beds and blankets because they wouldn’t last more than 5 minutes with him. Even under a diligently watchful eye, he can shred an object faster than any other dog I have ever owned. But I felt bad for him because he then has to lay on hardwood floors… So I was at a dog event and there was a vendor selling homemade dog beds. They were felt and looked super soft, but I knew after feeling how thin the fabric was that my dogs would never be able to keep one of these long. Even my other dogs like to vigorously scratch and circle before laying down and so they can put a hole in a commercial dog bed very quickly; and then I have cut foam, fluff, or even wood shavings all over my house. Not to mention most beds (even these homemade ones) were upwards of $50 for my size of dog. I tried to think about tough materials, and canvas came to mind. Canvas isn’t soft… but it is better than hardwood and could take a serious scratching. I
t is even hard to rip with teeth (not impossible). So I bought a large canvas painter’s drop cloth and I gave it to my baby whom I have nicknamed, Zippy (because I sing “Zippity Do Da to him every morning) to see how it would fair. It has lasted many weeks and he loves laying on it… and it has been washed many times making it much softer. So I gathered some old pillows and some old sleeping bags (my husband’s kids had when they were little) and I sewed them into his canvas drop cloth. I did the sewing by hand and used dental floss to make sure the stitches would be STRONG and would last through some humping and grabbing and possible ripping. And, I didn’t stuff it FULL so that it would have a little bit of give when he grabs it, making it less likely to rip. I’m no seamstress, so I kept it simple by hand sewing with no amenities, I can still throw it in the washer if I need since everything I put in it is washable! › Testimonials: Crate Beds Best choice by far Our house is all tile, and the loud noises from the hard plastic crate pan was driving us crazy. The only solution was putting a bed in the crate, but Joey destroyed anything that got in there. One morning I bought a gorilla "chew resistant" bed and it was full of holes by lunch. I got the kuranda crate bed and it worked perfectly! After almost a year it is still intact. Joey chews on the supports, but hasn't been able to do anything more than some cosmetic scratches. If he gets through the support, its replaced free! You can't beat that. He also loves the bed and seems to be very comfortable. For the past year, my 2 year old, 74 lb. Am. Bulldog/Pit Mix had instantly destroyed every bed I put in his crate (only took him 2 hours to shred another well known "chew proof" bed), but I think he finally met his match. I purchased the aluminum bed with ballistic nylon sling and have been using it for about 2 weeks. He has not tried to chew or destroy any part of it.
I even find him in the crate laying down on it with the door open. The bed may be a little expensive, but I think it is worth it. Overall I am VERY happy with this bed. The house bed is for my meduim guy that likes to sleep out in the family room (wood floors). Keeps him more comfortable and he loves it. Finally, a bed he can't chew! Tired of spending money on beds and then came across the Kuranda. Bought the aluminum frame, however noticed that the standard legs are 7" which would make the bed too high. Called Kuranda and explained how I planned to use this bed in my crate. They sent me cut down aluminum legs for the crate. This crate (bed) is the best and the Customer Service is second to none. Should I ever need another dog bed, Kuranda will be my only choice. My dogs like their beds Now that I have these beds in the crates I think I need more for the yard and other spots in the house! Recommendation of Kuranda Dog Bed Lucy, my 80 lb Shepherd mix took right to her new bed. It is durable, easy to clean, and can be moved to other locations within the house as needed with no problem. Directions to put it together were simple and clear. I opted to purchase the crate version with shorter legs and add the standard legs so I could switch it from a crate bed to a free standing. It has been easy to change the legs.
I would buy again Our whippet and Greyhound love them. When they were puppies they did have a couple accidents on them but they cleaned up perfectly by just hosing them off. They would hate the crate if we did not have them. My crate trained "love puppy" would chew everything we put in her bed. Until I found Kuranda, we could only line her cage with towels. The Kuranda keeps her cool and comfy. When we're home, she'll take a nap in her cage (unheard of prior to getting this bed). Even her 'brother' likes the bed. I love Kuranda and have told all of my dog-loving friends about it and donated several beds to the Humane Society. I will keep buying!! Our puppy would chew and ingest the towels and blankets that we put in his crate. Thankfully we learned of Kuranda beds. There is no way he can chew or ingest this bed and he doesn't even try. And it keeps him off the ground which is so much better for him. We first got the cordura material but switched to the ballistic because it catches less hair.
These beds are so easy to clean (we hose ours down outside) and they dry in no time! We bought this bed because our mastiff mix dog continuously chewed every thing that was placed in her crate. We tried blankets, plush dog beds, carpet, industrial rubber mats and etc. Eventually we stopped putting anything in her crate and she developed a hip pain from laying on the metal floor.
