History of Purple In 1989, two brothers, engineers Tony and Terry Pearce, partnered to change the world.Tony’s 13 years of experience in advanced aerospace materials, and Terry’s 20 years of experience in manufacturing, design, and project management, led to a partnership creating high-tech carbon fiber sporting goods and wheelchairs. The Pearce brothers created technology that was used in products by Nike, Johnson & Johnson, and Hill-Rom. But, eventually, the Pearces set out to create a technology that could revolutionize cushioning at a much lower cost. Purple began to evolve through a series of discoveries and product developments. The first breakthrough came in 1996, when the Pearces invented Hyper-Elastic Polymer™.This amazingly soft, yet strong material could stretch 15 times its resting size, was uber-durable, and never took a body impression.

Every Kickstarter endeavor has its risks and challenges—you just don’t have many with us! Production has already started. We’ve built the molds and machinery for our initial launch, and a portion of the money we raise here will go to fund the production of more molds and machinery so we can continue making Purple in the USA at our Alpine, Utah factory. Production time will be our biggest challenge, as we do make all of the Purple for all of our products at our factory. However, we are guaranteeing the first 1,000 will be delivered by Christmas! Another portion of our funding will be used to grow our Purple team to meet production demands. Another challenge might be working with our product partners to get certain international components to the factory in time to hit delivery deadlines. However, we’ve worked hard over the last several months to build up these relationships and plan accordingly. We expect to hit all of our delivery deadlines with the launch of the Purple® Pillow.
