But, it need not be the case – if you have the Crua Hybrid by Crua Outdoors.

So what the heck is a Crua Hybrid? Well, it is everything. Crua Hybrid is a one-man tent, a hammock, an air mattress and a sleeping bag, rolled into one. In short, it is kind of like a complete outdoor sleeping package, really. Or you could say it is an adaptive camping gear. Adaptive because it can be a cosy sleeping area that suits the site. If the ground is too rocky or uneven, just look for trees and hammock up, or if there are no close trees on your desired ground, pitch up a tent. Basically, it also adapts to your desire at the point in time. Seriously, we couldn’t think of a more perfect pitch then this, more so for myself as I am a causal camper which means owning multiple camping gears make zero sense. Granted, the tent isn’t big, but it has everything you need for a good night rest when out in the wild. Each Crua Hybrid features a waterproofed ripstop nylon construction that could stand up to even the heaviest downpour, bug proof mesh to keep uninvited tiny guests out while also maintaining breathability, an insulated air mattress and sleeping bag, aircraft-grade aluminum arch poles and pegs, shock chord system, and a pair of strategically placed ventilation outlets to prevent condensation within your cosy nest.

Crua Hybrid is designed to allow more than one Hybrid to be connected together to create a larger tent, or if so choose to, you could even build a tent city out of many Hybrids. Also, it is a hammock that can be loaded up to 285 lbs. Most importantly, it is easy to transport and store. Weighing a mere 6.95 lbs, Crua Hybrid rolls up to two compact, easy to lug along packages. The first, measures 20 by 9 inches in diameter, packs the tent, hammock and air mattress, and the second package is the sleeping bag and measures just 12 by 6 inches diameter. Once again, Crua has taken to Kickstarter where you can join nearly 700 backers in pre-ordering the Hybrid at a crowdfunding special sticker of $269. There’s no need worry about funding as the campaign, which has 17 more days to go, is already over 1,000 percent funded. Established brands and startups have been flooding the market with a variety of new designs, including flatter, more adjustable hanging beds like the Amok, more structured hammock-tent hybrids like those from Tentsile, bivy-hammock combos like the Alpine Hammock, and add-on shelter systems like the Nube. Hammock outfit Eagles Nest Outfitters (ENO) adds a bit of comfort and convenience to its 2016 line of hammocks with new products like an LED hammock and purpose-built inflatable mattress.Campers need shelter and they need light, so it's not too much a surprise that tent manufacturers have been integrating lights right into the tents themselves. We've seen tent-integrated lighting in product lines like Big Agnes' expanding mtnGLO series. On the hammock side, ENO already offers Twilights, a string of add-on LED lights. Now it puts the lights right into the hammock fabric, with the DoubleNest LED. Built atop ENO's two-person, 400 lb/181 kg-capacity DoubleNest, the LED version has a wraparound string of lights in its lip.

The lights have two brightness settings and a strobe function and are powered by three AAA batteries. For those looking for extra light that travels out of the hammock, ENO is also launching the versatile Moonbeam headlamp. The light chassis of the Moonbeam includes an integrated magnetic base that sticks to the headband, hammock hanger, and clothes or tent fabric via the magnetic clasp. The headlamp includes low, high and color-changing lighting modes. Hammock designs like the aforementioned Amok and Exped Ergo Combi have been built to accommodate sleeping pads to increase insulation and comfort. Usually you'd just use a standard sleeping pad, but ENO has designed what it calls the first-ever hammock-specific mattress, the AirLoft. The company adds a set of side wings to the basic inflatable rectangular pad, cushioning every contact point between you and hammock fabric to improve insulation and increase comfort level. The wings are detachable so the AirLoft can double as a regular ground mat.

ENO plans to start launching its new product lineup in July. The 1.8-oz (51-g) Moonbeam headlamp will price in at US$34.95 and the 2.8-lb (1.3 kg) self-inflating AirLoft mat at $94.95. The DoubleNest LED, which is a standard open hammock without a rain fly or insect netting, will launch in September for $99.95.Say what you will about how comfortable a hammock is for sleeping, Eagles Nest Outfitters is working to make them just a bit more hospitable with its new DoubleNest LED that incorporates a string of glowing lights so you can read, adjust your sleeping bag, or easily find your way back after a bathroom break. The $100 DoubleNest LED is an upgraded version of ENO’s two-person DoubleNest hammock that can support up to 400-pounds as long as you find a pair of sturdy trees to use as anchors. Its integrated LEDs are powered by three AAA batteries that can be maxed out with adjustable brightness settings, and there’s even a flashing strobe mode for hammock emergencies. For those who’d rather sleep on a pile of rocks than try to get comfortable in a hammock, ENO has also designed the $100 AirLoft which it bills as the world’s first self-inflating air mattress designed specifically for use in a hammock.
