Both Bentley and Pankhurst London share a commitment to peerless quality, contemporary style and modern luxury which combine to make the partnership one of true excellence. Only Bentley could make such exquisite and beautiful chairs.” The project combines both Bentley’s luxury leather trim and the Mulliner special commissioning department. Eight hides were used in the development and production of Bentley’s unique chair covers, also featuring bespoke Bentley and Pankhurst embroidery. The chairs’ arms were refabricated by grafting new wood onto the structure to replace the redundant ashtrays, and the suspension system within the chairs was reworked to improve the level of comfort. Hand-sculptured new headrest foams were also produced in an improved density material to further enhance the sense of wellbeing. Finally, colour combinations were chosen by the Bentley colour and trim team in conjunction with Pankhurst. The proprietor of the eponymous upscale gentleman’s grooming shop in London’s fashionable Soho neighbourhood knew that he needed to create an environment that would coddle and soothe his well-heeled clientele. So he turned to Bentley.The British automaker, keen to expand its footprint in the luxury goods space (it recently introduced a collection of leather handbags, a line of high-end furniture and even a signature scent), leapt at the opportunity to intersect with Pankhurst’s customers.
With the company’s factory in Crewe, a team of leathercrafters from the Mulliner Specification division – the same artisans who trim and stitch hides for the opulent interiors of Mulsanne sedans – refitted six Belmont barber chairs for Pankhurst. The chairs’ suspension was reworked for greater comfort, headrest foams were hand-shaped and the arms were extended to support the clients’ hands. Crewe’s colour and trim team selected hides from the Bentley range. Fire Glow leather features vertical stitching inspired by the Continental GT range, and diamond stitching on the Burnt Oak chairs evokes the Mulliner specification.
