Photo Courtesy: Comfort Research Grand Rapids-based product design and manufacturing company Comfort Research today launched a new furniture platform that makes use of expanded polystyrene molded frames to provide an alternative to traditional stick construction. Comfort Research debuted their new platform, called Orahh Technology, at last week’s Winter 2017 Las Vegas Market, which represents the furniture, home décor, and gift markets. The produce line will be available at virtual mass merchandise retailers nationwide this spring as new modular furniture under Comfort Research’s existing Big Joe and Lux by Big Joe brands.
“This technology has the potential to be a game-changer for the affordable furniture industry in terms of the speed in which we can manufacture and the virtually limitless number of designs we can offer,” says Matt Jung, president and co-founder of Comfort Research. “It’s not about the chair, nor is it about any given shape, per se. It’s the fact that we’re using a technology from the automotive industry and applying it in an innovative, new way to the furniture industry for the first time. In doing so, we believe we’ll open entirely new possibilities for furniture buyers, designers, and consumers.” Big Joe products with Orahh Technology has a suggested retail price starting at $72 for individual pieces and ranging upwards of $430 for sets. The Lux with Orahh line has a suggested retail price starting at $200 per unit. “We started Comfort Research with the notion that style and comfort were concepts attainable for anyone and everyone who might desire them,” says Chip George, CEO and co-founder of Comfort Research.
“We believe Orahh is the next big step in advancing that notion and we’re excited to see it come to life this year.” The solid-base construction of the platform holds more than 1,000 pounds and weighs just a few pounds per piece.
