I’m swimming in a sea of testosterone on a daily basis. So, when Alpharetta asked me to come visit and check out the American Girl Atlanta scene, I was game! It meant pink sheets, high tea and plenty of “girl talk.” I fell in love with the dolls! Samantha is my favorite; her motto speaks to me. “I’ve never met a tree I couldn’t climb, a rule I couldn’t ruffle, or a friend I couldn’t help.”

Here are five ways that Atlanta families can experience the magic of American Girl. The American Girl experience is a rite of passage for little girls today. I know moms that planned a trip to the American Girl store NYC or American Girl Chicago for years, of course that was before we had an American Girl store at North Point Mall in Alpharetta. Make your American Girl Atlanta trip into a truly special vacation by turning it into a themed weekend getaway. From the moment you enter the lobby of Atlanta Marriott Alpharetta, you are swept away in the American Girl experience. Head to the special American Girl check-in, where a pink carpet awaits you. Your girl receives a special welcome letter and lollipop (and a gorgeous sparkling tiara for  birthday check-ins!) Sue doesn’t have girls either, but she visited the Atlanta American Girl store with her niece Kate. See the bottom of this post for a look at her American Girl store visit, lunch at the American Girl restaurant, as well as some events (including a few FREE ones) at the American Girl Atlanta store.

But before you do that, here is a more in-depth look at the oh, so fun experience at the American Girl Atlanta Marriott Alpharetta. The American Girl Hotel Experience at Atlanta Marriott Alpharetta starts as soon as you walk in the door. There is a special, very pink check in for your little girl and her doll. The staff does it up right too. Anglea Flynn started at the front desk, but now she only handles the American Girl hotel reservations, and goes out of her way to make it special for the girls, and easy on the parents. Angela made us do our best diva walk down the pink plush carpet before presenting our welcome letter and explaining our stay. The credit card is good for one free dessert in the restaurant or a candy bar or chips in the gift shop. Then we choose a purple flower lollipop and headed to the elevators. On the way there, fill out an adoption form for a chance to win an American Girl doll. The hotel draws a winner every three months. We were on the deluxe package, so once we entered the room, we were greeted by an explosion of pink.

Bath towels, duvet, clock, pencil and pad, even a pink bean bag chair. In the closet is a pink bathrobe to use during your stay. On the bed, an American Girl doll-sized travel bed your little girl can keep. Each evening, there is an American Girl movie. Girls are encouraged to wear pajamas, just like a regular sleep over. During the movie enjoy complimentary popcorn and soda, or milk and cookies. Moms can watch the movie with the girls (there are chairs in the back of the room for adults), or wait outside and enjoy a cocktail in Vidalia’s restaurant. Afterwards, let the kids work off all that sugar in the indoor or outdoor pool. Enjoy breakfast the next morning in Vidalia’s restaurant as part of the package before heading to the American Girl store Atlanta for some shopping. Other awesome extras, free wifi and free parking. The Deluxe American Girl Hotel Package can be purchased for one, two or three girls. Each child receives the special check-in experience and amenities like the welcome letter, credit card and lollipop.

In the room, each girl has a bathrobe to wear during her stay, the doll’s bed to take home, and the movie experience, as well as breakfast. The Atlanta Marriott Alpharetta also offers a birthday upgrade. For a mere $18 add on, the birthday girl receives a very special birthday card, and specialized check-in where she will get a tiara for her and her doll, plus a wand. Staff knows the tiara means it’s your birthday, so expect lots of well wishes when you wear it throughout the hotel. In the room, little princesses will find a Happy Birthday balloon floating above the bed. The Residence Inn Alpharetta has an American Girl hotel package for a less expensive trip Georgia’s only American Girl Store is at North Point Mall in Alpharetta. It includes a large library area, with books and movies; a doll hair salon; the American Girl Bistro and shopping space galore! We visited for tea in the afternoon, tasting finger sandwiches, mini hotdogs, fruit kabobs, yougurt cups and so much more.

While you wait, make a tiny American Girl craft to take home — and don’t forget your hair tie..it’s around your napkin! Food comes served so sweetly on a tiered tray and is followed by heavenly dessert like mini cupcakes and chocolate pudding. With so many weekend birthday parties, afternoon tea is only served on weekdays. I recommend making a reservation. The cost is a very affordable $13.50 per person…well worth it! As promised, here’s a little about Sue’s visit to the American Girl Atlanta store at Northpoint Mall with her niece. All I can say is…Thank goodness they didn’t have American Girl when I was young. I would want EVERYTHING and my mother was not the kind to spend money on dolls clothing, especially at those prices. Although I think it is expensive, I do like American Girl. They’re great role models for girls and I’ve heard rave reviews about the books. We ate at the American Girl restaurant and it was very tasty. I love how you can get a seat and drink for your doll.

If you don’t have your own American Girl doll yet, you can invite one of the dolls at the restaurant to join you for lunch. If your doll needs a special do (or if that ponytale is so “yesterday”) then bring them by the Doll Hair Salon. Prices range from $10-25. Example styles are displayed on the wall for you to choose from. “Extras” at the salon include doll ear piercing, a hearing aid and a special pamper package with a mani-pedi for your doll. Advanced reservations are not accepted, so come by early especially on a weekend. The American Girl Doll Atlanta location offers special events multiple times a week. In the past, kids can get a baker’s apron (plus one for their doll) and decorate cookies, or learn tips from the Salon stylists about doll hairdos, including how to use the hairclips (and you get to take some home!) I think the most exciting one was Meal & Memories with a Grandparent. Eat at the Bistro, play dice games, make a picture frame craft and more.
