Celebrating 10 Years of Miovision Miovision is all about solving the world’s traffic problems, breaking up global gridlock with breakthrough technology. We’re bringing outdated infrastructure into the 21st century and helping engineer the foundations for smart cities. This year, we celebrate how far we’ve come and all the possibilities of the future. A Letter from Miovision’s co-founder and CEO, Kurtis McBride “Going from start-up to scale-up calls for celebration. It also calls for forward thinking because, without question, our greatest accomplishments still lie ahead of us.” We’re celebrating a decade of Miovision.  Here are 10 things that have made us who we are. 1. Humble beginnings In 2004, Kurtis McBride, Tony Brijpaul and Kevin Madill began to meet regularly in Tony’s mother’s basement with 3 bean bag chairs and 1 big dream; to start their own company. Within a few months, Miovision was the first company to reside out of The Accelerator Center and within a short period of time, took residence in their first official office space.

From a simple idea to a current team of 100+ employees with offices in Kitchener-Waterloo and Cologne, Germany and over 650 customers in 50 countries, we are thrilled with our success and are proud of how far we’ve come. 2. From Start-up to Scale-up We started small – 3 University of Waterloo grads spending countless hours envisioning how we could use video to capture data, to being the first company to graduate out of The Accelerator Center and then quickly outgrow our first official office space. We recently raised $30M in financing to continue to expand our team and accelerate our vision of smart cities and cloud-based traffic management technology.  Our vision has widened and our plans have gotten bigger as we look to the future and we’re just getting started. Read more about this. 3. Innovating at every intersection Technology is changing every facet of our lives. So, why can’t it be used to make for better cities? Why can’t it be used to reduce traffic?

We not only strive to answer those questions every day, but continuously work to innovate and revolutionize our current software and bring these answers to fruition. This year, we were honored to have been recognized as one of Canada’s Top 20 innovators by the Canadian Innovation Exchange, a list we strive to stay on as we continue to revolutionize and provide meaningful solutions to today’s traffic challenges. 4. 2.5 Billion Cars and Counting Since the sale of the first Scout back in 2007 to The Traffic Group in Baltimore, MD, our footprint has grown to 650 customers on 5 continents, we’ve processed over 2.0M hours of data and counted 2.5B vehicles. In North America alone, over 50% of intersections have been counted by Scout at some point.  This is the tool that industry professionals trust for their data collection studies. 5. Smarter Intersections, Smarter Cities For 10 years we’ve been the people behind Scout, the world’s most trusted traffic data platform.  Today, we’re introducing new technology to solve new traffic problems.

Spectrum provides the connectivity and tools you need to remotely manage your intersection network. By doing so, we’re helping cities take an important step to becoming smart cities. Dozens of customers are piloting Spectrum, and today we’re excited to announce its commercial availability. 6. Momentum For the past 3 years, we have been honoured to have been listed in the Deloitte “Technology Fast 50” for demonstrating bold innovation, dedicated leadership and strong growth in Canada. This year, we have been ranked 32nd with a 305 percent in revenue growth from 2011 to 2014. We’re thrilled to be recognized, and cannot wait to set some new milestones in 2016. 7. Customer First Miovision strives to solve customer and market problems with every product and service we develop. We will go above and beyond every time to make sure our customers are always satisfied. We’ll even fly halfway across the world to fix a glitch – before the client has even opened the shipment.

It didn’t hurt that the customer was in Honolulu. 8. Work and Play Not only do we work hard, but we play hard too. On any given day you might find us engaging in a company-wide challenge like “Who can do the most push ups” if you come visit us at our offices. Here are just a few examples of some of the crazy things we’ve done. 9. The Best of the Best We might be biased, but we think that we’ve recruited some of the best talent in Kitchener-Waterloo and Cologne over the past 10 years. In that time, we have grown from six employees to 110 talented individuals looking to make a difference. Our team is dedicated to being disruptive and our culture is about working hard, playing hard loving what we do. 10. Empowered to do big things Our employees are empowered to find solutions that turn ideas into reality. They are self-driven, want the opportunity to lead and do their best work when given the freedom to do fix problems and find solutions. “If I can’t empower you, you can’t work here” Kurtis McBride, CEO
