Lake Blue Rock is the only lake in Cape Town with crystal clear water and a depth of 60 metre, which is ideal for activities in Cape Town including commercial and scuba diving.
In summer, the water temperature reaches up to 26°C. The Cable (the over-head pulling system) is made for kneeboarding, waterskiing and wakeboarding but surfing on a door or barefoot skiing has been seen before too! You can either bring your own equipment or hire some out. The only requirement is that you are able to swim. It is also a popular destination for kite boarders on a windless day. For advanced riders, Blue Rock is one of the biggest obstacle parks in the world. For beginners, there are skilled instructors for assistance. Depending on the weather, night skiing is offered on a Friday evening from 7pm – 9pm. School outings are made possible with subsidized tariffs. The Restaurant and Café has a wide variety of Mediterranean dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner accompanied by homemade desserts. The chef creates special dishes for elegant dining and promotes a healthy lifestyle, cooking seasonal dishes using fresh and local produce. Blue Rock is known for its crispy thin based Pizza à la Italia, homemade bread, burgers & chips!
Blue Rock can prepare various buffet options, welcome snacks as well as welcome drinks for corporate functions. Birthday cakes can also be ordered on request. The conference centre is fully equipped with speakers, an amplifier, over head projector and wireless internet connection. It can seat up to 46 people as per cinema style, 16 as per classroom and 12 as per boardroom style. The Badi (our beach area) is great for relaxing, tanning and socialising. For the children, there is shallow water for swimming and a children’s playground. Shaded areas, umbrellas, bean bags and deck chairs are available for hire. There is also a beach bar which can be hired out for private functions. Blue Rock offer other activities such as: volleyball, 6-7 metre high rock jumping point, 400 metre long fufi-slide as well as two fenced in paintball fields (bush & obstacle) which are perfect for spectators to watch. It consists of 5 towers and is about 800m long all the way around. Blue Rock uses an overhead cable system with an electronic motor winch that pulls skiers around the lake. This system is safe, user- and environmentally-friendly (using no petrol). Skilled water-ski instructors are always in attendance and you do not need to be of a particular age, sporty or fit to enjoy the skiing to have the time of your life! The only requirement is that you are able to swim. Cable Waterskiing is a unique way to ski without the use a motorboat yet with the same feeling and experience. Blue Rock Lake is the only clear water lake in the Western Cape with water temperatures reaching up to 26 degrees. Cable Waterskiing is a much more social sport than skiing behind a boat as up to 10 people can be skiing at the same time and watch you up close.
While the boat produces waves which you would use for height when doing tricks, Cable riders need to use the tension of the rope when trying out tricks. The system can increase its running speed so that you may ski barefoot or slalom on our cable. Bookings need to be made in advance for this as the cable generally runs at about 30 kilometers per hour to accommodate the most frequent cable riders: wakeboarders, kneeboarders & waterskiers. Wakeboarding is a fast growing sport on the Cable. Most people start off with the kneeboard or with the waterskis before they turn to wakeboarding. It is a great way to get a feeling for the cable. Kneeboarding and waterskiing are perfect ways to start off with and are ideal for all ages. Kneeboarding is particularly loved by children because it is the easiest from all disciplines – kneeling on the board and holding onto the handle is not only easy but loads of fun. Waterskiing is almost as easy as kneeboarding and a perfect way to start learning.
Waterskiing is a bit more elegant and graceful yet still tons of fun!!! Activities at Blue Rock includes one of the largest obstacle courses in the world! It consists of kickers, sliders, rooftops, fun box and many more to enhance your experience! The latest & newest obstacles, imported from Germany, have been setup for you to show off your stunts & moves on. Helmets must be worn at all times when hitting one of these obstacles. The Cable has proven to be an excellent training spot for kiters. For beginners, it’s perfect to train their board skills without being challenged by the wind. For advanced riders, it gives them the opportunity to ride when there is no wind. We offer kneeboards, skis, wakeboards, mono-skies, slalom skies and discs. Nevertheless, you are welcome to bring your own equipment. We also rent out long and short wetsuits to keep you nice and warm on the cooler days. Life Jackets are compulsory on the Blue Rock lake and will be provided free of charge.
