Although it's my belief best if not terribly soiled-keep all spills, spot cleaned. The cover can and could be washed. I haven't tried using it as a bed, just lounge on it while playing video games (so I haven't tried laying on it for 9 hours straight) but I find it holds me quite comfortably.
