TGV Cinemas' Beanieplex: The World's Most Comfortable Movie Theater Posted April 19, 2012It looks like the Archipelago Cinema in Thailand (which floats entirely on water) may have some competition in the World's Coolest Movie Theater department. Earlier this year, TGV Cinemas, a theater chain in Malaysia, introduced the Beanieplex (a.k.a. "the bean bag hall"), which replaced your standard cinema seating with comfy beanbags. (You can check out photos of the theater in the gallery below.) According to the TGV website, "the revolutionary 'Beanieplex', Malaysia's first and only cinema hall featuring bean bag seats, offers patrons a cosy and relaxed viewing experience and has become a favorite among the movie-goers." Of course, there are downsides to having a movie theater full of beanbags. For instance, what happens when someone dumps soda, popcorn and candy all over the seat? Cleaning a beanbag seems way more difficult than cleaning your standard theater seat. Three TGV chains currently include the Beanieplex experience: the Sunway Pyramid, the 1st Avenue Mall and the AEON Tebrau City Shopping Centre.

How do I make sure I’m sat with my friends? A. Seats are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis so make sure you arrive on time if there’s a group of you! But don’t worry, there’s space for everyone and each spot is as cosy as the next!
Q. What happens if I can’t make it anymore?If for any reason you can no longer attend and wish to transfer your tickets to another evening you may do so via Eventbrite (for a small fee). This can be done 24hrs prior to the day of the screening by following the instructions here. Q. Is there a (minimum) age limit? A. No, however entry to films and events is restricted by the classification given by the British Board of Film Classification or others. We are required to refuse admission to anyone who is below the minimum age required by the relevant classification. Q. What do I bring? A. Comfortable clothes, a friend and a pillow! Q. Will food and drink be available? A. Only items purchased on site can be consumed at the event, as there will be a licensed bar selling tasty drinks and snacks.
