I don't normally take the time to write reviews, but I'm making an exception for the Watercolor Inn simply because it is so frustrating to see a good thing go to waste. The resort has so much potential - great location, views, and amenities. However, my wife and I walked away from our recent stay feeling underwhelmed and frustrated. When you pay $400+ per night, there are certain built-in service level expectations.

The Watercolor Inn falls short of those expectations in a few key areas:1. Beach Chair Rentals - The entire beach chair reservation process feels like a scam. It is akin to buying a car and the dealer mentioning at the last minute that you need to pay extra for tires. Note to management - just include the cost of the beach chairs in the room rate and be done with it. We're all smart enough to know that we're paying for this service one way or another. It's the presentation that counts. The management at Watercolor unfortunately don't seem to grasp this concept. 2. Beach Towels - The location and check-out system for towels is similarly perplexing. There are no towels down by the beach. Instead, the resort makes you schlep up to the pool house through a maze of kids and beach balls to "check-out" towels. There is a $15 charge for unreturned towels. The process brought back bad memories of YMCA camp. Again, if missing towels are such a huge problem (the towels aren't that great so I can't imagine why anyone would want to steal them), just include the additional cost in the room rate.

3. Pool Access - Making guests wear wristbands to access the pool has all the ambiance of a 1980's rock concert. It's tacky and completely diminishes the entire customer experience. 4. The common areas, particularly the hallway carpet, could use some updating. Very tired, but another easy fix. I know I sound like a "diva" with some of these complaints, but I'm really not. While we enjoyed our stay, the resort fails miserably in the value category. Travelers could potentially walk away with a borderline 4/5 star resort experience. Instead, one leaves with a 3/4 star experience due to management's inability to react to customer feedback. With a few very minor tweaks, I would definitely make a return trip. Until then, I'll stay away and tell my friends to do the same. 461 reviews sorted by: By way of background, we frequently travel to the town of Seaside -adjacent to Watercolor --and know the area well. Also, as a caveat, our stay at Watercolor coincided with Spring Break for Atlanta schools, which may account for the negatives I describe below.

First, the positives: The location is unbelievable. Now, the negatives: The Inn was a zoo! The service was non-existent and prices are sinful given the poor quality of service. My zoo comment refers to the Beach Club, aka, the Family Pool. While we were there, it was impossible to find a chair, towels were in short supply and noise levels were unbelievable. At the beach club, attempting to get service was a competitive sport. After trying hard, my wife was able to flag down a surly server who did not deign to offer us ketchup, silverware, water or napkins. [My wife was able to scavenge some plastic ware, but no napkins from an adjacent table.] Our bill for our meal (two kids' chicken tenders; 1 awful fish taco, 1 great chicken breat sandwich,. two mixed drinks and a kids' lemonade: over $100.Our room, the $580 beachfacing deluxe was tiny; there was no room for a full bathroom - the shower was separated from the room by a towel/curtain! [Honest, I have the pictures to prove it.] As we checked out we were assessed nearly $80 in resort fees plus tourist taxes in addition to the sales tax.

As they say, views priceless; the WaterColor stress headache: $1000 per night! We will not be coming back. We have been to Watercolor for many trips ranging from a few days to a week. The grounds, facilities, and homes continue to be well maintained. This trip was over spring break and even though it was littered with huge groups of teenagers, traffic and the pool area were manageable. Our unit however was not good, which is a first in a long line of different condos that we have stayed in here. The second bedroom and bath smelled of cat urine so bad that we had to keep windows open at all times. Housekeeping did come and try to mask the odor, but it didn't work. If you go to this beautiful destination, do not stay in 10 watercolor way unit 302- if you are sensitive to this smell. Don’t get me wrong, other than our unit, this place continues to be our favorite of our beach trips. I agree with other travelers.Though this property is gorgeous. The pool and ocean views are amazing (that's why we choose this are of Florida over Miami! and we are New Yorkers!)

.....the hotel is managed by an inexperienced young staff, very unprofessional. By no means the standards of the Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton, which are usually in the 5 star category. The price of the Watercolor Inn is comparable to these chains, and is no where near the quality.More of a beachy, laid back, motel feeling. No luxury here, though, the property is beautiful.Would not go back, but would rent a VRBO in this area next time. “Very casual & beautiful hotel w/ great views” My family, including three children, stayed here for four nights during our 'spring break.' This is a beautiful property--great rooms with a lovely view, excellent pools, easy beach access, clean, a lot of glass, etc. There are a lot of great activities made available to those staying here, including kayaking, boarding, biking, and beach set-up. We have spent years renting in Seaside, and this was our first stay at the Inn.Our trip was ruined, however, by the extreme mismanagement of this resort.

There is no 'adult' presence at the property, and it appears that the young, inexperienced, and harried front desk staff in front is in charge of everything. We had several mishaps which are totally inexcusable at a place which charges over $400/night, and they include the following:1. On the second day, the resort charged my VISA/debit card approx. $2000 for my stay -- and I'd paid for my entire stay two months earlier on Travelocity. I do not travel with a VISA card, don't use one, and had put this cash in my bank account to cover my trip expenses. This deduction essentially emptied my account and left us with NO MONEY to enjoy the holiday. I had a scant apology for the error, no remedy and no fruit basket, and was told my bank would credit this debit in six or so days. It was blamed on a 'new' employee. This was SO stressful and the staff acted as if this happens all the time, was no big deal because we would eventually get our credit, and was just one of those things which happen. On our last day there, as we prepared to leave the resort for a two day drive and, again, no money for gas or hotel, they finally consented to cash a check from our investment account - for a maximum of $200.

It took over an hour of waiting before this 'elevated' amount (versus the standard $100) was approved by the off-site accounting manager. This was ridiculous and insulting. 2. On day 2 of our four-day stay, construction/repair began on the floor above us, as they were putting down new carpet. The noise was nonstop for ten hours a day, and it was so loud, especially when they worked for 8 hours on the room right above us, that we could not hear one another speak. Why do this kind of work during peak season, in March, during spring break, instead of during off season when the inn is less full? We spent a lot of money for a peaceful vacation, and instead it was unbelievably loud and stressful. I have three young kids and am noise-tolerant, but this was ridiculous. 3. My husband and I both brought our laptops to do a bit of work while the kids slept, and the internet never worked. The staff was of absolute no help and kept telling us to try what we'd already been doing (giving us the code over and over again).
