Josh Goudswaard, 32, was reportedly due to return to his home in Perth from holiday in Bali on the evening of November 6. He has not been heard from since that morning, according to a plea for help on a Facebook group. Friends have told the Herald Goudswaard is originally from Te Awamutu but also lived in Hamilton.

A Katikati woman wrote on the Bali Expats Facebook group that Goudswaard told colleagues he would be on holiday with a woman called Anita. "If anyone has seen or spoken to Josh or knows where is or was staying please contact the New Zealand embassy in Jakarta or myself," Louise Brown wrote. "Immigration have confirmed he never left Bali and a missing persons report has been placed with the New Zealand Police. "His friends are very worried and hope to hear from him soon." The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that a missing person report had been made, Fairfax reported. Another friend, Aaron Smith, wrote that it was "totally out of character" for Goudswaard to leave his business and staff in limbo. "Phone's been disconnected and not replying to emails and the last transaction on his bank statement was for a small amount registering in Stroke On Trent in the UK," Smith wrote. Smith wrote that Goudswaard had met a woman called Anita on Tinder. "They took off together to Bali on the 26th of October and [he] was due back on the 30th then extended his trip to the 5th November."

A statement from the airline said the Indonesian government had imposed new “administrative requirements” on the airline for its Bali service operations. However, Agus Soebagio, a spokesman for Indonesia’s directorate-general for air transportation, rejected claims Jakarta had unexpectedly imposed new requirements and instead accused the budget airline of breaching its licence.“Tigerair has been flying from Australia to Bali using a limited chartered plane licence and not the AOC 129 licence for regular scheduled flights,” he said.7 WORST THINGS THAT HAPPEN WHEN YOU TRAVEL21 TOP TIPS FOR ENTERTAINING YOURSELF DURING A LAYOVER“The chartered plane licence is valid for a limited period of time, usually three to six months, after which it can be extended.

We don’t provide any grace period.“They are proposing for an extension but we found out that they have been selling tickets to the general public, which is not allowed under such permit.”It said ticketing should be controlled by the airline’s parent company Virgin Australia.Tigerair Australia CEO, Rob Sharp released a statement this morning saying the airline had been “fully compliant” with the existing agreement with the Indonesian government. “Tigerair Australia currently has approval from The Director General Air Communication and Director Air Transport to operate between Australia and Bali until 25 March 2017.“This involves selling tickets in Australia between Australia and Bali. Under the existing agreement, we are not able to sell tickets in Indonesia and we are fully compliant with this.“We are not proposing any changes to the agreement — we are operating under the same approval we have been for the last 8 months.”Mr Sharp said the airline was working with the Indonesian government to commence flying to Bali as soon as possible and has asked the government for a “grace period” while they work through the new requirements together.

Tigerair flies about 900 passengers on daily return services to Bali from Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth and has been flying to Bali since March last year under an interim arrangement that allowed it to use Virgin-supplied pilots until the airline received regulatory approvals from Indonesia.Australians Josh Dixon and Tyson Templeton told News Corp Australia at Denpasar International Airport that they were meant to leave Indonesia to go back to Melbourne on one of the cancelled Tigerair flights. But they were now going home via a Virgin Australia flight instead, which would take them to Brisbane first, then onto Melbourne. They said they were “a bit angry, and annoyed” because of the inconvenience.Aussie tourists stranded in Bali after Indonesian Government cancelled TigerAir agreement. Cyri, Claire and Enzo Dureigne family were meant to be on a flight from Bali to Perth but their flight was also cancelled.“The lady we spoke to from Tiger told us to go and get our own way home.

She said ‘go and get the flights, because you might struggle to get back to Perth in the next few days”,” Mr Dureigne said.Mr Dureigne said they had no communication from Tigerair afterwards, and decided to buy three tickets on a flight from AirAsia for about $1500 in order to get home faster.“We are going back today,” he said.“We had no communication from Tiger.”He also said that Tigerair left them a note under their door informing them of a Virgin Austrlaia flgiht that was going Sydney tonight at midnight, and they could return to Perth from there.“It’s atrocious, it’s very hard for young families, people try to go back from holidays and people in Perth trying to go on holidays,” he said.“We’re probably gonig to be out of pocket by probably $1000.”According to The Australian, government officials in Australia’s embassy in Jakarta were drafted in to hold urgent talks with the Indonesian government and defuse the situation last night, but were not able to settle the regulatory impasse.

As such Tigerair was forced to cancel all flights in and out of Bali for a second day running as well as its Friday morning flights.Virgin Australia will operate two recovery flights from Bali today to bring as many affected customers back to Australia as possible.Further information about the Tigerair services that will not be operated can be found on the Tigerair website. Passengers on services that will not be operated and passengers that will be accommodated on Virgin Australia’s replacement flights will be contacted directly by Tigerair.Customers currently in Australia who are affected by the cancellation of today’s Tigerair services will be offered a full refund and customers in Bali will be offered free of charge seats onto Virgin Australia services. All other Tigerair flights (all domestic services) remain unaffected by this decision.A statement from the airline apologised for the cancellations.“Tigerair Australia sincerely apologises for the inconvenience caused by this decision and we are working to resume flights as soon as possible.”
