Baldwin Hardware Baldwin Hardware was founded in 1946, when Severin Fayerman bought Newark-based Baldwin Tool and Die. Originally a manufacturer of door hardware components for other manufacturers, the company began making luxury residential lock sets for distribution in the Los Angeles area in the mid-1980s, gradually expanding its distribution range to include all of the United States and Canada. The company was acquired in 1999 by ASSA ABLOY, a Swedish conglomerate, but Emtek locks and hardware are still assembled in California. Product Lines Both Emtek and Baldwin produce a variety of residential lock products, including deadbolts, key-in-lock hardware sets and electronic keyless locks.
Both companies also offer tubular lock sets and mortise-type lock sets, which offer a higher degree of security than a tubular lock.
