They work well for vacation rental properties because you have two main features that allow you to grant access to the property remotely. With the August app, you can send guests a virtual key, which guests can use to gain entry upon arrival. For added security, you can install the keypad and camera, which is also connected to your smartphone via the app. If someone buzzes and you’re not home, you can use the app to see a clear video of who is at the door and can communicate with them. At that point you can decide whether to grant access or not, via the app. The first option is great for booked guests when you can’t greet them personally. The camera and keypad option is great for unexpected callers, or contractors etc. who are expected to come, but at an unspecified time. Whenever anybody enters the property, you receive an instant notification for security purposes.Lockitron lets your guests lock and unlock the door with their cell phones. You can add or revoke access instantly, so it’s great for a multi-user situation like vacation rentals.

Another advantage is that it’s not just limited to smartphones — it works with older cell phones, too. Built-in Wi-Fi allows you to lock/unlock your door from anywhere in the world. The system also sends out a low-battery alert. They’re taking preorders for the next batch now.Ref: Gadgets To Manage Your Vacation Rental RemotelyHi there. I work for a company called Pillow and we manage over 300 properties. We use August locks for our properties and they work great! They’re everything you’d need for total and secure control over your front door no matter where you are. Your smartphone acts as the digital key to this device (it also still works with your original key), and you can control who has access to your home, be it friends, family or guests. The best part is it unlocks before you enter and auto locks behind when you leave. It also has a 24/7 activity log that tracks who enters and exits your home. And with unique keys for each user, you’ll always know who opens your door and when.

Another thing is it works with the free August app to create keys, grant access, view the activity log, and more, available for Android and iOS. More information about how we’ve integrated August’s smart lock services into our management services can be found here:vacation rental software the key to good managementIf Apple hasn’t hit peak iPhone yet, they now appear pretty close to it. Sure, the iPhone 7 will likely kick things up a notch once again, but it will probably be a smaller notch than before. The era of hyper-growth seems over. Quite the “problem” to have: Apple has conquered the high-end smartphone market and created what is perhaps the greatest business this world has ever known as a result.Wall Street, naturally, is panicking. Because if you’re not busy growing, you’re busy dying. This is ridiculous, of course. But that’s today’s Wall Street, where profits are just the unfortunate residue of a lack of commitment to growth. Everyone is buying the future, not the present.

Dividends are for the unimaginative.Obviously, it’s easy to say what Apple should do to “fix” the company in Wall Street’s eyes: pour profits back in to R&D or other internal projects that could one day, potentially lead to more growth. Apple is doing this, of course. The problem is that they cannot do it quickly enough. That’s how good of a business the iPhone is. Without being foolish, Apple simply can’t come up with a way to use that much money internally. It’s hard to imagine that any company could. And so you can’t help but wonder if Apple’s “mistake” (and I’m going to put many words in quotes here because I simply do not believe in this mentality — just trying to think through Wall Street’s) was that they didn’t re-invest this money quickly enough in the dawn of the new Apple (post–1997).On one hand, you can’t help but understand this. Apple was on the verge of death when it brought back Steve Jobs. This is not hyperbole. They were likely months — if not weeks — away from bankruptcy at one point.

When you come that close to death, the natural inclination is never to get that close again. Those coins look especially nice in the bank.Plus, Apple’s mantra is “a thousand no’s for every yes.” Such focus has clearly served them very well over the years. And Wall Street played along because the first focus was iMac, which led to iPod, which led to iPhone. Growth begat growth begat more growth. It was only when iPad started to “sputter” — a business that is larger than most businesses out there in its own right, mind you — that some started to realize that growing beyond the iPhone may be impossible. Even now, with “Services” being the second-largest business Apple has revenue-wise — a business that’s bigger than all of Facebook — the growth Wall Street seeks is nowhere to be seen.Contrast this with Amazon, a company which has famously eschewed profits in the name of investment and growth. And it has worked beautifully — both for the company but also in the eyes of Wall Street.

A company which just posted record quarterly profit — many would say accidentally, on the increasingly strong back of AWS — of $513 million, which is roughly the profit Apple generates every 4-5 days, can do no wrong. If profits keep growing from here, great, as long as it’s slowly. If not, well, that’s great too because it just means they’re plowing it back into the business. Living to grow another day.Shocker: Apple is not Amazon. They’re very different businesses (though they undoubtedly will overlap more and more over time). Apple doesn’t want to be Amazon. Apple wouldn’t know how to be Amazon. But Wall Street wants Apple to be Amazon. Apple simply grew too large, too quickly. Amazon may reach such heights as a profit-machine, but it will take a decade or more — plenty of time to buy, sell, and speculate. All that matters is that it doesn’t happen now. Buy the promise, sell reality. With that in mind, the only thing left for Apple to do may be to buy back all of their shares and go private.
