This page contains information on baby food on board, tips for flying with your baby and information on luggage allowances. The safety of your baby is our top priority. So your baby may not travel on our planes until he or she is at least 7 days old. Each adult may travel with a maximum of two babies. You travel with 1 baby on your lap (€20 per flight) and reserve a separate seat for the other baby (at the adult fare). You can reserve a separate seat for your baby by calling our Service Centre.
Your baby is sitting on your lap The following luggage rules apply to your baby: Would you like to take baby food or a nappy bag with you in the cabin? Then put it in your own hand luggage. 1 piece of hold luggage of max. This can be a trolley, pram or collapsible (umbrella) buggy for example. Your hold luggage must always be handed in at the check-in desk at the airport. If you would like to take more hold luggage for your baby, you can cheaply book extra kilos.You are only allowed to take a collapsible (umbrella) buggy of max. 10 kg up to the gate. There, the buggy will be taken from you to be transported in the hold. Are you taking a pram with you? Then it will be taken from you at the check-in desk. We advise you take a baby carrier with you for your baby. Below you can see a collapsible (umbrella) buggy that can be taken up to the gate and a pram that is handed in at the check-in desk. Note: Important: Will your baby turn two during your trip? If so, your baby will require a separate seat for the return flight.
The fare for this seat is the same as for an adult. You can make two separate bookings or contact our Service Centre for assistance. Your baby has a separate seat You may take the following luggage with you for your baby: 1 piece of hand luggage of max. 55 x 40 x 25 cm and max. Want to be sure that your baby’s hand luggage can be brought on board? Make sure the hand luggage is no larger than 45 x 40 x 25 cm. This size bag fits under the seat in front of you or in the luggage compartment above your head. If you would like to take hold luggage for your baby, you can book this quickly and easily via My Transavia. This is only possible before you have checked in. A car seat for using in your baby’s airplane seat so that your baby can travel comfortably. Your car seat may be no wider than 42 cm and no longer than 57 cm and must be a certified child restraint device. Unfortunately, we do not have any car seats on board. Please note that your child is not allowed to sit in this car seat during take-off and landing, and when the seat belt sign is switched on during the flight. A collapsible (umbrella) buggy of max. You can take this with you to the gate, from where it will be transported as hold luggage. Baby food on board You may take as much baby food with you on board as your baby requires during the flight. You may take a maximum of 100 ml of boiled water (for mixing formula) in your hand luggage. Tips for flying with a baby Make sure to give your baby a dummy or bottle during take-off and landing to reduce ear pain. We cannot boil water on board. But it is not a problem for us to heat up a bottle or baby food. We’d be happy to do this for you!
When booking your flights, simply indicate if your baby or children will travel with you. The applicable reduced fares for kids and/or babies will automatically be calculated. However once you are 36 weeks into your pregnancy, we advise you not to fly. We also discourage flying during the first week following delivery. The precise menu varies per flight but Bluey will be in every meal box - plus a junior pilot adventure game or junior pilot diploma.We recommend bringing your own baby food. Any restrictions at the airport on bringing liquids do not apply to your baby food. On intercontinental KLM flights, we have only a few special baby meals available. These are free and do not need to be ordered upfront. See what will be on>On both European and intercontinental KLM flights we allow the use of various types of portable electronic devices, such as handheld games and tablets. You just need to set your device to airplane mode or switch off the cellular service. .If you are travelling as a family, regular seats will be assigned to you free of charge at least 4 days before departure. We will try to have you all seated together. If this is not possible, we always guarantee that each child will sit next to an adult in your group. Of course you are welcome to select seats for your family at an earlier stage, to ensure that you are all seated together. In that case, we recommend that you use the paid option for regular seat selection.If you are travelling with a baby on your lap (max. 2 years on the return flight) you can reserve seats for yourself and everyone in your booking at a fee. If you do not reserve seats yourself, we will make sure to assign suitable regular seats to your family. For intercontinental KLM flights, on board carrycots can be reserved via My Trip or by contacting us.
These are suitable for babies that are no longer than 65 cm and weigh no more than 10 kg on the day of the trip. Although we’ll do our very best, we cannot always guarantee the availability of a carrycot when you board the aircraft. For each child you may always bring 1 car/child seat free of charge on KLM flights. If you booked a seat for your child, we recommend that you bring your own car/child seat on board.The car/child seat must be able to fit between the armrests of the aircraft seat, which is 42 cm (16.5 in) wide.Your child and the child seat need to be secured according to the seat manufacturer’s instructions.During take-off and landing child seats may be secured in a rear facing position. At cruising altitude they must be placed forward facing to allow recline of the seat in front.A child seat may show no defects and must be approved and visibly certified for air transport.You will need to reserve the use of a car/child seat in advance. If your child’s baggage is carried in one of the parents’ check-in baggage, this baggage may weigh no more than 23 kg (50.5 lbs) per piece. Some of our partner airlines have different baggage rules to our own. Please contact your travel agency or the airline concerned for further details. For each child you may always bring 1 completely collapsible stroller (umbrella type) free of charge on any KLM flight. If the stroller will not fit under the seat or in the overhead baggage compartment, you can check it in at no extra charge. The stroller/pram may have a protective cover but this may not contain any other items.Children travelling aloneWith our Unaccompanied Minor service you can rest assured that your little globetrotter is in very good hands.Reserving the service is mandatory for all kids aged 5 up to and including 14 years old when travelling without an adult (18+). But you can also (optionally) reserve the Unaccompanied Minor service if your child is 15, 16 or 17 years old and travelling on their own.
