Enjoyed lunch here recently and was very impressed by the venue, choice of food, and the general atmosphere of the dining area. The staff are friendly and efficient and have a good sense of humour. Prices are reasonable and it is well worth a visit. Have been here quite a few times and each time has been good. Fresh food, nice staff and nice atmosphere as you are surrounded by the busyness of the English Market underneath. Each time the restaurant has been full and we have had to wait for a table but it is always worth it. The service can be slightly slow... Love coming here for lunch when in cork city. Really nice soups, sandwiches, salads, quiches etc and I absolutely adore the hustle and bustle from the market and the view that you get from upstairs! It's ideal for meeting friends because the buzz from the market drowns out the fits of laughing!! Had a delicious lunch here recently, great bread,fantastic tripe dish with delicious potatoes. It has an interesting menu with most of the ingredients sourced from the Market downstairs. We went here on a busy Saturday for lunch. This cafe is upstairs in the English market, and is really popular. The food is fresh from the market and really good. Lovely fresh sandwiches, spiced beef (Cork speciality) goats cheese etc. Hot dishes available too There is a more formal restaurant on one side, and the cafe at the other,... This sits on top of the market, which adds a lively vibe while you eat. You can choose to grab something at the counter, more casual, or a formal sit down with a waiter. We chose to get something at the counter. Beer and wine available. You order, they give you a number then bring it too you. My wife reserved a table by phone, assuming they will be packed as usual. When we arrived they knew it was us who reserved the table, without having to give them a name, which was kind of a nice touch. In addition to that, we were offered a high chair for our baby without even having to ask for it....
I was home in Cork for the holidays and brought my partner here for lunch I have had good experiences here before however when we arrived most things on the menu were gone the staff then assumed we would know what's left to eat it was not clear what the options were the staff were generally just unhelpful. There are two parts to this establishment. A cafe side where you queue and order then sit down. Then there is the restaurant. I have been to both many times. It is nice to sit in the high stools over looking the market in the cafe side. The restaurant is obviously a bit slower and comfier.
