Since Graco is marketing the Argos as a 3-in-1, I have to review this seat in three parts: as a forward facing harness seat for toddlers and preschoolers, as a high-back booster, and then as a backless booster.Five point harness seat: FIVE STARSHigh back booster: THREE STARSBackless booster: ONE STARAs a five point harness seat for toddlers and preschoolers the Argos Elite, like the Nautilus before it, is a five star seat. I love absolutely everything about it. It is comfortable, sturdy, easy to install, easy to adjust the harness tightness, has lots of pockets for goodies, easy to wash. This seat has it ALL. With the Nautilus you had to un-latch the seat and re-thread the top of the straps as your child grows, but with the Argos you can adjust the headrest up and down without removing the top of the harness.As a high-back booster there are two flaws. The first is that the seat is so huge that your child will absolutely not be able to buckle themselves. You will be able to clearly see the female end of the seatbelt, but it is difficult even for an adult to get the male end of the buckle around and behind the armrest to click it shut.
The second problem is that while it's obviously great to be able to raise the headrest you can't adjust the width of the seat at the shoulders. My 4 year old's shoulders don't fit comfortably between the sides and letting my 7 year old try the seat was a joke. He is probably the skinniest 7 year old on earth, less than 45 lbs, and there is no way he could ride in that seat with the back on. If you need a high back booster for an older kids I use this one: Diono Monterey High Back Booster with Adjustable Headrest, SurfAs a backless booster honestly this seat is a joke. While it is theoretically possible to use the Argos this way I can't imagine anyone ever would. First off it looks ridiculous without the back, big old plastic hinges sticking out the back. Second it is way too high. If your kid is so short that they could tolerate being boosted up this much they need a different seat. And they still won't be able to buckle it themselves.Graco is doing themselves (and their customers!) a disservice advertising this as a three in one seat.
