Apache and Nimrod tent trailers were the only ones on the market at that time; they came packaged in crates and had to be assembled. The units retailed for $395 to $695, quite a lot of money for 1959. Harry was a supervisor for AT&T in Philadelphia and he decided to contact the manufacturer the Vesely Company to inquire about becoming a distributor. The Stone's were chosen as the Philadelphia area distributor and ordered an initial load of 10 trailers, a whopping $4,000 plus freight.

Harry rented a 1,000 sq. ft. building in Collingswood NJ, marking the beginning of Apache Camping Center. It was quite a struggle for Harry working midnight to 8:00 a.m. at AT&T and operating a new camping business with little sleep. Working on a very limited budget and unable to afford a lift truck, Harry came up with the solution to unload the delivery truck by tying the crate to a tree, pulling the delivery truck forward and hoping the un-assembled trailer was not damaged inside the crate. In 1962, a larger facility was needed and the business was moved to Gibbsboro, NJ and the first indoor trailer showroom on the East Coast was born. Another move was to take place, so in 1965 Apache Camping Center moved to Berlin, NJ and changed the name to Stone's Camping World. A new 4200 sq. ft. building was erected on Route 73, at which time Harry decided that this "camping thing" was taking off and resigned from AT&T to run the business full time. Stone's Camping World took on Coleman trailers in 1969 making Stone's Camping World one of the oldest Coleman dealers in the country.

With the growth of the tent trailer business, a large inventory of camping equipment and a line of motorcycles a new 8000 sq. ft. building was built across the highway in 1972. The building was featured in the September 1977 issue of RV Dealer magazine on the front cover. Harry ran back and forth across Route 73 to sell motorcycles on one side of the highway and tent trailers on the other side. (Try that these days with traffic traveling 60mph!) After many successful years in the motorcycle and pop-up business, Stone's Camping World now focuses on pop-ups, fifth wheels and travel trailers by the best manufacturers in the industry. Stone's Camping World is still family owned and operated by their son Kevin and his wife Yvonne, utilizing their many years of experience in camping, wholesale, manufacturing and retail RV experience. In 2006, Stones Camping World purchased a 23-acre property in Winslow Twp and relocated the business in November into a new modern, state-of-the-art building.

Whether you are replacing your entire hub or re-building the old one, it is very important to use the proper size replacement parts. The first specification to determine is the number of studs/bolts and the ‘bolt circle’ diameter. Most 4 lug hubs have a 4” bolt circle and most 5 lug boat trailer hubs have a 4-1/2” bolt circle diameter. Cargo and utility trailers with 5 lug hubs are commonly found with a 5” bolt circle. To correctly measure the bolt circle of a hub, measure from the center of the hub to the center of a stud and multiple that measurement by two. The second specification to determine is the Inner and Outer bearing size. Most bearings are stamped with a reference number that can be used to easily identify its inside diameter (see chart in our wheel bearing section).

If the number is not available, the most accurate way to measure the bearing I.D. is with a micrometer. Be sure to check both the inner and outer bearing measurements before ordering. Hub length or bearing distance should also be considered. Some trailer manufacturers, such as LOADRITE & EZ-LOADER, use a ‘short hub’ on their 1” & 1-1/16” straight axles. The overall hub length is therefore shorter than most other standard boat trailer hubs. When rebuilding the hub body with a new bearing kit remember to replace the inner and outer races or cups. Even if the cups don’t show sign of wear they should be replaced to maintain proper bearing tolerance. Thoroughly grease the bearings by working grease around rollers then pack the hub interior before installing a new grease seal in the back of hub. Bearing grease quality and compatibility is another important consideration, especially for boat trailers that are commonly submerged in water after a long road haul. Marine trailer bearing grease provides outstanding water washout and excellent corrosion protection caused by salt water.
