Top Quality Customer Service Enjoy talking to courteous professionals who will give you straight answers, advise you on the right products for your requirements and make sure they are installed as well as they are made. About Antique Door & Hardware The location at 1750 Avenue Road in Toronto is well-known today, but it wasn’t so in 1971. At the time, Citywide Locksmiths had been in business for 10 years and had built reputation for delivering top quality products and customer service. When Citywide saw an opportunity to do the same for door and cabinet hardware, they took it and Antique Door & Hardware opened its doors for the first time.

From the very beginning when Harold Shearer first opened the doors, customer service was the top priority. And the first step was to make sure Antique Door & Hardware offered great products and services to their home builders, architects, designers and retail customers. The company expanded in 1991 with the addition of ADH Contract Hardware. ADH works with designers and architects on commercial, residential and government projects. Today, ADH has been Ontario’s premier destination for fine decorative hardware for over 40 years. Leading interior designers, architects and builders have come to value and rely on our tremendous selection, expertise and service. Whether you’re a design or construction professional looking for products that complement your work, or a homeowner wanting the very best architectural door and millwork hardware available, Antique Door & Hardware has the products and people who can help. It’s such a shame when beautifully made or restored doors are appointed with lesser quality doorknobs and hinges, with little attention given to quality and detail. We offer a complete service in bringing your old hardware back to life. Before you toss out your old hardware, bring in a sample and we will be happy to show you what we can do with it. You will be surprised at what can lie beneath the old rusted and painted facade! Repairs are usually possible, but because of the uniqueness and individuality of some of the parts, we can only try. Sometimes there is nothing left to be done but to replace the item, and chances are we have one just like it, or very close! Hardware Restoration Before & After Samples (PDF) » Antique Hardware Parts & Restoration Price Guide (PDF) » Our antique hardware collection is rounded out with a large and varied assortment of quality new and reproduction hardware: some ornate and unusual, and some everyday basic items.

We carry a complete line of hardware accessories including, but not limited to, latches, hinges, bolts, doorstops, letter slots and doorknockers, and there are a number of finishes available. The most popular items can be found in our hardware gallery but the full collection is extensive. We’re working to get everything online, but in the meantime if you don’t see something you’re looking for, just ask. Visit our hardware gallery » View entire Hardware Gallery » After years of cool nickel, chrome, and stainless steel, brass is making a big comeback, even in kitchens and bathrooms. It’s not the super-shiny yellow lacquered brass that went out years ago, but a warmer, golden, weathered brass. The very best patinas take time to develop – start with raw brass and let it do its thing – but if you’re in a rush, we have a few shortcuts that look almost as good at the real thing. Working with Vintage Front Doors We are the first to admit that finding the right vintage door is not the easiest undertaking;

it’s a labour of love and those that understand the value and beauty of old construction and well-seasoned materials are happy to go the extra mile to make our doors work for them. First step: speak to your contractor – some are happy to work with older doors, others prefer the pre-hung variety, and it’s important to have your carpenter on your side! Next step: take measurements of your existing door. If you find one you love that’s not quite the right size, there are some options. Most doors can be cut down in height or augmented in either dimension, particularly if you plan on painting them. Holes can be filled, paint can be stripped, thermal glass can be inserted, and we are happy to refer you to experts that can make all this happen. We sell our doors as-is because everyone has a different plan! How to: fix wiggly doorknobs A lot of people think that old doorknobs are wiggly by nature and to that we say not true!  When vintage knobs are installed properly they shouldn’t move around and they certainly shouldn’t pull off.
