SOLUTION: In gymnosperm, Pinus the male and female gametophytes do not have an independent free-living existence, a well-developed gametophyte is present and thus, the sperm cells are fertilised with egg gill within the ovule.

Funaria and Marchantia are Bryophytes. Main plant body or the dominant phase in bryophytes is a free-living gametophyte in which the sporophytes are borne on the gametophyte. During reproduction, the gametophytes are fertilised outside their bodies. Presence of independent free-living gametophyte helps them for external fertilization.

Pteridophytes the dominant of the independent plant is a saprophyte i.e. also possess free-living gametophytes.
