Taking this opportunity, I want to tell you about a unique building located in Yekaterinburg and having a very long history.

Its history begins with the founding of the city. The first thing that was built after the construction of the factory (the present city) is the church (297 years old in 1723). This church stood until 1918. That year Nicholas II was put there. During the years of the Great Patriotic War, Lebanese always broadcast news from the front from it. However, in 1953 it was demolished. For a long time, a mountain of bricks licked the square. After they built from these bricks house of defense (dom oborony). It housed a branch of pioneers. After that, the air defense headquarters from which they managed to shoot down (Pauls), in honor of this, they put a plane on him.

The buildings of the club, a sports college and a residential building are located with their ends to Malyshev Street, at the intersection of streets with a shift in the quarter, forming Malyshev Square. In the southern part of the complex there is a club with military symbols. A four-storey building with a protruding first floor and an oval southern facade and a displaced parallelepiped volume with an angular cylindrical bay window at the end. The platform formed in this way was used for the installation of the aircraft (originally the PO-2 model). The extended facades are highlighted by rows of windows and a massive profiled cornice above the first floor, also highlighted in color. The main entrance to the club is located in the oval part of the building and overlooks an intersection. Entrances to the first and basement floors are highlighted on the long facades with canopies. Inside it is planned according to the corridor type with the inclusion of halls. The building of the sports technical school, rectangular according to the project, is strongly displaced inland in order to create a square in front of its facade. The complex is an example of an educational institution typical of the 1930s. The building of a residential building with a characteristic facade (corner balconies, loggias) was designed as a hostel for athletes. The complex was built in the forms of constructivism using typical urban planning techniques of the 1930s.

Brutalism is the direction (style) in architecture from the 1950s to 1970s, initially in the architecture of Great Britain. One of the branches of post-war architectural modernism.

The main features of the style:

Functionality;
Urbanism of the appearance of brutalist buildings, emphasized massive forms and structures;
Courage, complexity of compositional solutions, reflecting, according to the brutalist architects, "the entire complexity of life";
The surfaces of building materials are not decorated, they are exhibited in their natural form (“honesty of materials” is a principle dating back to J. Ruskin and the English “arts and crafts” movement);
International character;
The predominant building material is reinforced concrete;
An integrated, urban planning approach to an architectural order.
