Stats work like normal stats.
Skills
Scientist/Mechanist/Mobility/Medical
Skills are skill checks - to pass, you must have the skill high enough to do so. Medicine very much determines if an operation is successful - stitches from someone trained is routine, from someone else dodgy, from someone inept, worse than the wound. Mobility becomes a combat skill for dodging.
