Acorns

Acorns

Tierracruda

Some information on eating acorns and baking with acorn flour. All over the world acorns have been eaten for hunger, poor judgement or lack of cakes. Only in Sardinia it became haute cuisine. There, acorn flour gets mixed with clay and ashes from chosen herbs before being baked. There are Roman acounts of that already from the 1st Century AD.

It is done still once a year in a village fête high up in the mountains. I share a pdf in english, a link to a web page with acorn recipes from around the world in english, a link to a site with the description of the fête and recipe (in Italian) and a great book in spanish (more oriented to the hippy-alternative minded) Enjoy!
