Acer’s $9000 Laptop is a Machine from Outer Space

Last 2016 at the IFA trade show, Acer teased consumers on their upcoming monstrous gaming laptop to be showcased at CES 2017. It’s the Predator 21X, a gaming laptop which boasts mouthwatering components that can run even CERN’s Large Hadron Collider.

The Predator 21X features a 21-inch curved display that will make your eye tear with its 2560 x 1080 resolution. The screen’s 120Hz refresh rate is achieved by utilizing Nvidia’s G-SYNC technology which synchronizes the screen and GPU’s refresh rates to minimize lag and screen tearing to deliver a smooth gaming experience.

Acer stated they’ll be using Intel’s latest Core i7 CPU to run the whole system and install up to 64 GB of memory.

Still, it cannot be called a gaming laptop if it doesn’t have a powerful graphics unit – the essence of a gaming rig. That’s why the crazy guys decided to put in two Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 cards in SLI, each equipped with 16 GB of video memory. These raptors can run even the most punishing video games available in the market. You can also power the latest VR headsets like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive with these cards.

Now let’s go to its storage capacity. The Predator 21X can handle up to four 512 GB SSDs and includes a terabyte of hard disk drive. You can install all the games you’ll be playing for the next 3 years with this much space. Acer said they still left some space on the motherboard if you ever plan to expand the memory and storage of the laptop.

They’ve also installed a mechanical keyboard with macro keys which is a staple equipment for gamers. It has a trackpad as a mouse replacement, which hides a cute little surprise: flip it over and out comes a numeric keypad on its reverse side. This is great for spreadsheet processing which the laptop is really for.

Ports are also not short in supply, with the laptop having Thunderbolt, USB, HDMI, DisplayPorts, and Ethernet ports, to name a few. This allows you to hook multiple monitors to your rig because its 21” screen may be insufficient.

With all these components installed in a laptop, no one expects it to be lightweight and compact. In fact, it’s like a fully-furnished full tower PC compressed in a box because the Predator 21X weighs 20lbs (8.8kg). It’s also too bulky to be carried in your backpack along with other things because it’s more than 3 inches thick.

Acer announced the price tag for the laptop is currently at $9,000 – a fortune only for the truly privileged, insanely hardcore gamers.
