The United States can’t always sweep away opportunities from under our noses, especially when it comes to the telecom industry. According to a recent report, by 2018, the relentless growth in data usage from the big players, like Airtel and Reliance Jio, will fuel India as the second largest 4G handset market. This means, the U.S. will need to take a backseat while the glory is reserved for the Tricolor country.

Currently, India is thriving with a customer base of 150 million active users. This figure is on the rise as we speak and is driven by the insatiable demand for mobile internet. The estimated installed base for 4G devices is 340 million and that’s enough to outwit China and the United States.

While the U.S. is still finding its hold between the 220 million to 245 million margins, the Indian market is on a ceaseless race to the top. There’s no denying that China is leading the telecom industry with a whopping 780 million 4G devices which is their goal for the following year.

Understanding Facts and Figures

According to a recent survey conducted by Counterpoint, cell phone shipments increased drastically by 65.7 million units between April and June this year. To sum it up, close to 30.4 million units of smartphones and 35.3 million units of other phones were shipped in the second quarter of this year.

Though there were setbacks initially because of GST roll-out in June this year, India managed to come on top of it all. Kudos to the telecom giants ruling the Indian market – it’s always a pleasure to see efforts paying off. India is getting noticed for all the right reasons and the impact she’s leaving behind is noteworthy.
