A commentary about the left movement

Maya Klenger

Hello, my name is Maya and I am a local socialist (maybe even anarcho-communist, the anarcho-communist society would be the one I would want to live in, however I am not sure how to actually make it work IRL in the current political, social and economical situation) on this channel. I watched that little drama with the “psy-op” shit and just wanted to say a few words about the left movement in general as a little commentary about the drama and to the previous post.

1. I don’t understand the situation with the whole k-pop thing completely, are you people sure you are not overthinking it? That always annoyed me, the tendency of some left-wingers to make an enemy out of anyone for the stupidest of reasons. The whole “liberals, bwah” thing is ridiculous. As far as I remember “liberal” actually means a not-so-far liberal leftist or left-centrists and not some liberal-conservatives. On this channel we turn people’s attention to the same topics everyone on the left is concerned. Topics that should be a priority. Many so-called “liberals” are the people which want equality, rights, justice, welfare, to stop right-wing radicals from getting into power, put an end to poverty, guarantee just labour, etc. And this is all despite those caricatures which describe them as clueless buffoons who are more likely to stand with fascists than with the left movement as a whole. I agree that there are a lot of centrists and people calling themselves “liberals” while putting up stupid ideas like giving free speech to the fascists. But there are not nearly enough of them as to declare all “liberals” your enemies and make ridicule of them, because they are not radical enough or because they don’t want to end capitalism overnight. As for this channel, despite that it’s mainly a left-centrist (or as you call it “liberal”) thing, we do acknowledge the need for antifa and the far left to resort to activism and sometimes political violence to deplatform and fight fascists, stop police brutality, try to put an end to unethical capitalist practices, fight racism and all kinds of phobias. Despite the disagreements the creators of this channel may have with the members of some left movements, they still know that people on the left (excluding maybe totalitarian left, tankies, stalinists and others like this) are believing in betterment of ALL, justice for ALL, equality for ALL, good lives for ALL, ending racism, phobias, fascism and everything on this wave. Despite all the differences and disagreements many movements within the left may have about systematic and long-term things we all have our hearts in the right place and a lot of our priorities are the same. So why do you need to constantly make a fuss over other people’s views, constantly seek enemies, alienate other leftists and non-radicals?

2. I know that most people will call me a traitor/revisionist/liberal (in a negative context)/etc. but the contemporary situation is such, that violent war-like revolution is impossible, “late-stage capitalism” isn’t something that will destroy itself, the fascists are organizing and uniting and the whole world is in such a turmoil that fighting something that should be the long-term priority for the left will only make the situation worse. Felicia was actually right that LARPing revolutionary communism in this situation is not a very good thing.

A certain neoreactionary person, very worried about the current political climate, once said “Cthulhu swims left”. And he is totally right. Today the left should support moderate social activism and companies trying to install ethical practices and promoting support for rights and equality, EVEN if it’s done in the name of non-communist ideas, self-preservation and profit. And fiercely fight anyone who does otherwise, abuses labor and supports right-wing political lobbies. We need to do that because this is exactly what is meant by the quote. We can’t afford fighting each other and companies which promote values dear to us and I am not talking about capitalism. There are a lot of non-political people and centrists, which can fall prey to right-wing ideologies. They can’t radically swing to the left, so an alternate strategy must be adopted. And the so both the social activism and companies promoting certain things are actually good, since it is done to our benefit. I am not saying we should forget our core values about capitalism, but hell, can you have a little bit of pragmatism? Don’t you think that when the Overton window is shifted towards left those people will be more inclined to side with the left? That actually is exactly what happened in the liberal states in the USA and why the liberal strain of socialism has the resurgence in popularity. Reform and education of the people is the only way. And by reform I don’t deny the need for radical activism and political violence because, as I said earlier, fascists must be stopped from gaining ground by all means and certain things in our society call for action. But please, forget the “revolution” or “ashes of late-capitalist society”. The revolution will bring murder, violence, terror and will be ultimately defeated in Western countries, because since early 20th century much have changed, not a lot of people have the will or means to participate in murderfests. And after revolution is defeated with full arsenal of militaries and police the reaction will undo everything we have accomplished in the last 100 years. And even if the revolution is successful history shows that they almost never bring a desirable results, unless you are a tankie and totalitarian dystopia was your actual goal. We do not need to end “late-stage capitalism” but to transform it with democracy, activism and reforms in a system which will bring better life for everyone.

3. To sum it up, even though our long-term goals may differ, left-centrists want ethical and welfare capitalism, socialists want a state which will ensure justice for everyone and anarchists envision a better society, we must unite, because in the short-term and medium-term we have the same priorities and goals. The overthrowing and extreme violence doesn’t work. We absolutely need to end the threat of fascism and solve the problems on the top of the list. Only when we established a democratic and just system, with capitalism or without it (Scandinavian experience shows that the direction of ethical capitalism is possible as well for all who says that it’s impossible to establish such a system with capitalism and I AM NOT SAYING that capitalism is good, just that there can be created a basis for further reforms) which will allow us to engage in dialogue and push for reforms without the opposition from people, who fight ALL what we hold dear, we can decide on the long-term priorities.

I call for unity. We can’t have something like Spanish Civil War which lost a perfect opportunity to establish democratic socialism or even anarchism because of the disunity among the republicans, which included both anarchists, communists, socialists, social-democrats, liberals and centrists, and also because of sabotage by stalinists, even in the face of united and strong reactionary forces. We can’t have some vanguardist bolsheviks leading us to revolution in which they will murder all the “traitors of the revolution” effectively ending any chance for democracy, equality and justice in Soviet Union. We cannot afford alienating and fighting moderate people, which may embrace right-wing ideologies, instead of trying to shift them toward us. We don't need to fight charity, moderate activism and companies working for our benefit, despite them being non-radical or alien to our core values. We must not fight people who have different perspectives on the far future or people who seek democracy, equality and justice, but disagree in the reasons behind totalitarianism, inequality and injustice. It's only pragmatic to stop fighting the forces that benefit us, stop fighting people who support our current agenda and fight anyone who harms us and brings us down with all our heart and this includes both capitalists, alt-right, natinalists, fascists, all the people which have their Overton window shifted to the right.

We must unite around the priorities we have, embrace dialogue and reform among the whole left movement and put an end to the current real threats to the people across the world. Thank you.
