The future of the universe rests on one young man, Kamui Shiro, who must destroy either the Dragons of Earth or the Dragons of Heaven - two opposing armies. He alone must decide whether humanity should be destroyed to create a purified universe, or whether it should be protected to preserve civilization. Two oracles, the sisters Hinoto and Kanoe foresee the coming of the Dragons and predict opposite outcomes. Each sister gathers strength and ammunition to insure her own vision for the future. However, neither sister realizes that there is one man who has an even greater power than the Dragons, and that ultimately he will determine the fate of the earth. Which sister will prevail and how does Kamui fit into their struggle? The answer to this question will forever affect humanity.
The series, X (known as X/1999 in America) is truly a great series. However, this movie did essentially no justice to it. If its your first time seeing any part of the series, it really wont mean anything to you, and is just plain a bad way to start a good thing.<br/><br/>To enjoy this series to its fullest: a)read the Tokyo Babylon manga, b)see both Tokyo Babylon movies, c)read the X manga, d)see the X TV series (but watch episode zero AFTER the rest of the series), e)THEN watch the movie (it has cool scenes that weren't in the series and a MUCH better ending). If you don't do it all in that relative order, you'll really miss out on a lot.<br/><br/>If you like the TB and X series, and want more anime/manga that is similar, I highly recommend that you should see the Neon Genesis: Evangelion series, movies, and manga (again, see the series first, and keep in mind that the movies basically replace the last two episodes of the series.<br/><br/>Overall: I give the X movie a 6/10 because it really has minimal story, and will instantly have you lost, if you've seen nothing of it before. Otherwise, it is a pretty good anime to compliment the series, plus a much better, clearer, and actually conclusive ending.
What is up with this movie! Can someone tell me? Please? I don't think I've ever seen such a strange movie! There was no plot, no characters, and pretty much nude women with swords being either stuck into or extracted from their bodies. This film makes Lynch, a big mysogonist, look like friggin Ayn Rand! Every woman in this film is either innocent and sickly violated, or evil with a pair of giant hoo-hoos. The only redeeming thing about this convoluted nonsense is the artwork, and it it BRILLIANT! I've never seen such outstanding animation. This puts Akira to shame! <br/><br/>Rating: 4/10( My advice, ignore the dialogue and the nonexistent story and look at the breathtaking artwork)
