Having raised the stakes, Nick has one last play to change his fortunes...and this time, it's all or nothing.
When a Las Vegas bodyguard with lethal skills and a gambling problem gets in trouble with the mob, he has one last play...and it's all or nothing.
I have seen many of Jasons films and do like his work but sadly Wild Card wasn't doing it for me. It was predictable more than a Walt Disney film. Without any doubt, one of his worst if you like Jason watch it but don't go out your way you ain't missing much. A weird and little stupid with the storyline their are some funny moments. A little bit of fighting and some classic jokes. But the story was slow and hard to get into. I also cannot understand the use of the soundtrack it didn't fit the film. On a bonus, the fight scenes was some the best I've seen the only reason it managed to get a 6. Would I watch this film again no I rather watch My Little Pony or Americas Next Top Model at least that had more humor. Stay away from this film if you want to lose time of your life your nothing going to get back. Finally Jason being on a boat in a happy sunny day wearing a white top that has no connection or reason behind it within the film. Then we are told it's set in Christmas where the Christmas trees. Bloody awful Nick Wild is not saint nick and neither is this film.
Wild Card isn't a bad movie. Its okay. I wouldn't call it action or comedy or drama but something that floats in the middle. This seems to be where Jason Statham tries to sit lately and it doesn't work. He knows what he's good at and he knows what people want to see and yet I think he desires more so he tries to do drama with a scene or two where he kicks some serious butt. This doesn't work because the action seems out of place and no matter how well choreographed or "cool" it is, it doesn't work. I love Statham when he's doing straight up action. The guy is a masterful martian artists. Wild Card in theory is a great idea and no I've never seen the original Burt Reynolds one. You look at Wild Card with director Simon West and Statham and you immediately have certain expectations. Simply put...don't. Its not an action film. Its maybe a loose thriller set in Vegas with a guy trying to escape some mobsters but the story is all over the place and it needs some serious fine tuning. I think it needs to be turned into a straight out action flick and not try to be so heavy handed with the story. You can have both but when you try to balance the two like this it doesn't work. Performances are good, story is okay but it lacks anything truly great.

Jason Statham plays the type of role he does best. He's brooding and dark and mysterious and grumbles his way through the story but his character doesn't have much depth and you keep waiting for the action scenes. I will save you the work...there are three...all very good but three good action scenes in an hour and a half film don't cut it. The supporting cast are all decent but no one is in the film very long. I'm not even sure the purpose of Michael Angarano's role. He's okay at it but there is no chemistry between he and Statham and he has no real purpose. Dominik García-Lorido, Milo Ventimiglia (he is actually very good) and Stanley Tucci (great role but way too small) are featured throughout the movie. There is nothing wrong with the cast and they all seem to try but the script is average at best and doesn't give them a lot to work with.

There really is no reason for the film to be set at Christmas and its not enough of a "Christmas" presence to make a difference (I was hoping for something a little more Die Hard in nature.) The second action scene set to a Christmas Carol was downright awesome but Christmas has nothing to do with this movie. Simon West is so much better of an action director than this. Going back to the amazing Con Air and his TV work and Expendables 2 and The Mechanic. I have a feeling maybe he wasn't allowed to do what he would have wanted to with this film or he wanted to try something different but Wild Card is simply not an action film. It has all the ear markings of being one but then isn't so you're left feeling more than a little let down and empty and the film is completely forgettable. It was okay to watch but absolutely nothing special. I'm waiting until Jason Statham realizes he is best in a straight out action movie. Transporter 4 anyone? 6/10
Somewhat less than the sum of its many amusing or at least unusual parts. But with Goldman, West and all these classy co-stars, he’s at least kicking butt in better company these days.
