If using Norton Ghost, is there any recommendation on how to combine its facilities with the standard recovery point facilities of windows? I am sorry but I am a CTO and I cannot believe that Microsoft has let this software out of pre-production without full load test. There is a bug and it needs to be fixed. So we recommend backing up useful data from these volumes as part of file backup. The shares are setup with the appropriate security and I can access things fine. You can immediately see this behavior from a screen shot of Performance Monitor taken while my dual-core Thinkpad X61 was doing a file backup: First Backup reads from the source drive green linewith the CPU simultaneously zipping up the files blue lineand then it writes the zipped files to the destination drive red line.

Please be straight with us. So there is a big safety problem too. Disk space is expensive on server systems using SANs, expensive SCSI, and RAID systems. We expect subsequent backups to be very quick. This seems to be quite strange to me. I would not be surprised, if there are even more performance problems that should be adrressed. Wait until the reindex finishes. At fresh installation of windows 7 i use original but still with slipstreamed updates installation disk, anyway i sugesst you try updates kb3102810 and kb3050256 to install right after fresh installation these two can significiantly increase speed of both searching and installing updates. Why not virtualize all servers to just 1 share?

While I was in the Disk Utility, I thought that I might as well check my external backup drive. You engineer an OS to blow the hell up after a few years. Also i want to add next is recommened to be done. This is the only solution I could come up with.
We will try to address this in our future releases. I know that Vista is on the way out the door, but for the users that have suffered with it for all these years how about at least provide us a way to clean it up a little.
