Why I Don't Respond To Most Recruiters on Linkedin

C Byrne

I have had many recruitment consultants contacting me via Linkedin over the past 8 years of being freelance. I detail my advice on how I suggest they should contact me on my profile for all to see.

They usually just send a connection invite with no explanation (a.k.a 'personal note' to describe why they are contacting me), and if they do this I (usually) don't respond. It's the same as them sending me a blank email!

One contacted me recently in the same manner as I have just described, but I viewed her profile and she had some of her latest vacancies listed as posts at the top of her profile (so I could infer what I was being contacted about which was useful). So I accepted her connection request and communication commenced! See screenshot below:

In short, recruitment consultants need to make it as clear as possible why they are sending Linkedin connection invites to candidates or it may be considered just as much use as a blank email!
