رموز بیخودی، دومین منظومه اقبال که در ۱۹۱۸ به چاپ رسید، در حقیقت متمم و مکمل اسرار خودی است. در نظر اقبال بیخودی به معنی بی‌خود شدن و از خود به در شدن نیست، بلکه مراد از حالت خودی (خودشناسی) برآمدن و به خدمت جامعه درآمدن است. او در بیان مراد خود از بیخودی به این شعر مولوی استناد کرده است: جهد کن در بیخودی خود را بیاب / زودتر والله اعلم بالصواب.اقبال در این منظومه، به بحث درباره‌ی ‌رابطه فرد و اجتماع، میزان وابستگی آنها به یکدیگر، ادامه می‌دهد و بر آن است که نفس افراد نخست باید در اجتماع کامل شود و سعادت افراد به رشد و حفظ نفس جامعه وابسته است. از سوی دیگر آزادی عمل نفس فرد در برخورد با مردم به ناچار محدود می‌شود. از این رو آدمی فروتنی را با احساس عشق و وابستگی به دیگران می‌آموزد. اقبال در منظومه رموز بیخودی با اصول متعصبانه و ملی گرایانه سخت مخالفت می‌کند و بر آن است که امت و ملت (مذهب) وحدت عقیدتی به وجود می‌آورد نه وحدت وطن و محدوده‌ی جغرافیایی هر فرد ناگزیر در ملت خود محو می‌شود. دلها متحد می‌گردند و کار ملت سامان می‌یابد: دل مقام خویش و بیگانگی است/ شوق را مستی ز هم بیگانگی است/ ملت از یکرنگی دلهاستی/ روشن از یک جلوه‌ی این سیناستی/ قوم را اندیشه‌ها باید یکی در ضمیرش مدعا باید یکی
