Trigun takes place in the distant future on a deserted planet. Vash the Stampede is a gunfighter with a legend so ruthless that he has a $$60,000,000,000 bounty on his head. Entire towns evacuate at the rumor of his arrival. However, the real Vash the Stampede is not the same man that rumor portrays him to be. The enigmatic and conflicted lead character in Trigun is actually more heroic in nature; as well as a complete and utter idiot at times.
Vash the Stampede is the most infamous outlaw on the planet Gunsmoke and with a 60 billion double dollar price on his head the most sought after!
This is the single greatest show I've ever watched. Everything about it was excellent. I liked the beginning when the show was silly and funny and I absolutely loved the end when it was darker and more intense. It does have a couple weaker episodes in the middle, but these episodes are only week by Trigun and standards and really are still better than most episodes of most shows. This show is sort of like Cowboy Bebop with a much deeper storyline. The first time I watched episode 23 was the first time I ever cried at a movie and episode 24 was even more intense. This show literally changed my life and blew my mind. I'm still hoping that someday, there will be a sequel.
Trigun is a great series that gets even better as the series progresses. The only way I can describe the world accurately is a sci-fi western on crack. The series starts off in a Saloon where two men discuss the legendary outlaw Vash the Stampede (the main character of the series). Little do they know that said outlaw is sitting right across the bar from them. A few seconds later the bar is destroyed by bounty hunters trying to get at poor Vash. The only place in the bar left is the place where Vash the Stampede is sitting. This makes for one of the coolest intros I've ever seen to an anime series. From there you find out about how Vash is really a skirt chasing nerd (which is why he might have survived this long). But then as the series goes on further you find out how much of a badass he truly is as more and more secrets are revealed. In addition to Vash, who is voiced very well in both english and japanese, there are several well thought out supporting characters. Milly Thompsen and Meryl Strife are two insurance agents who have been contracted to follow Vash around to make sure he doesn't cause any more property damage (it turns out that destruction follows Vash whereever he goes, and that is a huge liability). And the wandering priest Nicholas D. Wolfwood, who carries a giant cross filled with weapons. All in all this is one of the best animes I've ever seen. Filled with humor, great fights, and good drama.
