During the great Cybertronian War, the Autobots and the Decepticons crash landed on Earth. Millions of years later, geological activity revives the warring factions - the Decepticons want to strip Earth of its vast energy resources, and the Autobots seek to protect the inhabitants of Earth from that fate. And so an endless battle begins in a crucial race to find an energy source for their homeworld Cybertron.
Two opposing factions of transforming alien robots engage in a battle that has the fate of Earth in the balance.
Transformers. What is it if not great? This is a show that makes me think how much time it would take to make one of these, with all the complicated designs and transformation sequences.Hard and time consuming, but they succeeded. This is probably the most complicated TV show ever. But all though it pushes the animation capabilities of the time and pushed it to their limit, but never lost sight of the dramatic element. These plots are very well thought out and has a great deal of character development and action packed fun.Another thing,THE greatest voice cast assemble EVER!!!No voice is lacking. They all have a distinct and powerful performance.
I compare the dimensions of my liking this cartoon at the level of original Star Trek; am a rabid Trekker. It's taken me over a year attempting writing a review on & off. Every time would stop feeling I'd go over the top in expressing its excellence--strictly am referring to the above summary.

My favoring Transformers creeps past Jonny Quest & Herculoids for its cast of Characters. My 20 something sisters & I (neither of us having kids at the time) stopped our preparing to leave for that half hour during its initial run. Faster than any show at that time we tossed aside its just a longer advertisement for a toy line. Indeed we forgot about toys, except in my case. Big time I wanted an Autobot who'll promise mentioning briefly...I'll try. Oh wait, recall him saying "I'll try" a couple times. I fell in cartoon love with this character, have never fallen out.

I was surprised on resuming watching these episodes shortly prior to 2007 Bayfest how vividly I recalled an episode's details. Both seasons' main appeal remains the interweaving of comedy via clever, very frequent name calling & snappy come backs. Although in large part taken from other literature episodes had a fresh slant. V/A cast rate a ten; first ever show I wanted to learn all their names.

Sadly original G1's unedited content wouldn't air on a broadcast channel failing passing today's media watchdogs set upon toning down violence in children's shows. Demands for censorship: Guns appearing & used, often than not at the always fleeing humans. My favorite bad guy Soundwave brandishing any gun would've scared me if I had been 18 years younger. Occasionally somebody, yeah really, uttered the word "dead. Megatron v. Optimus Prime were no holds barred slobber knockers, especially G1's 1st year. Megatron & Starscream's perpetual power play has Megatron making the upstart his punching bag/shooting target--butchered, toned down.

Autobot goings on was more genteel of course but not with out hotheads, egotists, whiners, music lovers, a name calling virtuoso, their leader once in a great while loosing his temper, plans against the enemy went awry.

Transformers 3rd year remains in my top 10 of worse cartoons ever. The state of the series went down sewer awry. I'm passionate in my hating it. Humor gone, took itself too seriously, leaders, wussy good & mad bad bot, broken zippers, for brains once put onto small screen...Won't go any further than to say nothing could help season 3 besides not producing it at all. That sour tripe lowers my overall rating of the series to 8.

In an early Japanese toy-catalog from 1985, it is said that the trailer can teleport back to the Autobot base. Contradicting this is a hypothesis forwarded by story-editor Flint Dille, who claimed that the trailer is made out of "Disappearium", a substance capable of turning invisible. While these may seem like satisfactory explanations, they can not, however, be applied to the disappearing parts of other robots -- which include for example Megatron's pistol-mode silencer and stock, Omega Supreme's entire rocket launch-base (he travels only as a rocket, which in robot mode forms one of his arms), and the combiner kibble (head, feet, hands, chest-plate) of the various combiner teams.

The most likely (and most popular) explanation is that these components are warped into subspace, an extra-dimensional realm where the Transformers can store their weapons and their "excess" pieces. The concept of the subspace is never brought up in the cartoon, however in some scenes, the robots' weapons do appear in a flash of bright light, seemingly out of nowhere, and in one shot, even Optimus' trailer can be seen glowing. While this effect wasn't used consistently, it does lend some credibility to the subspace idea, as these flashes could represent the (dis)appearing objects warping through the dimensions. This explanation remained fanon (fan-canon) for a while, before finally being picked up by official story writers in 2005. One of the most iconic features of Optimus Prime is his mouthplate that covers the lower half of his face, and which moves up and down when he speaks. This was of course based on his toy, as were the mouthplates of many other Transformer characters -- for example Soundwave and Wheeljack also have this sort of covering on their face --, however during the toy-to-animation model redesigns, a number of originally masked characters were given human faces (Bumblebee), while some originally mouthed figures received masks (Superion).

Many later incarnations of Optimus Prime gave him an entire face complete with mouth in order for him to be able to emote better, as well as to appear more "human". But in most media, the original G1 version of Optimus has consistently been depicted wearing a mouthplate, a famous exception being the 1984 storybook, The Great Car Rally, which had him appearing with a human-like face. In the Generation 2 comics, it is revealed that Prime has a mouth-shaped speaker hidden under his mask, and this is referenced by his original Masterpiece figure, MP-1 Convoy, which was otherwise based on his cartoon-design.

But as far as his cartoon appearance is concerned, it is left a mystery whether he has anything under the mask. One particularly infamous animation error from the episode The Search for Alpha Trion (1985) showed him without a faceplate for a moment, and there was nothing underneath.
