A samurai sent through time fights to return home and save the world.
Long ago in a distant land, Aku the shape-shifting master of darkness unleashed an unspeakable evil, but a brave samurai warrior wielding a magic sword stepped forth to oppose him. Before the final blow was struck, Aku threw open a portal in time and flung the samurai into the future, where Aku's evil is law. Now the samurai seeks to return to the past and undo the future that is Aku.
Being seven years old I didn't know how to appreciate a cartoon, a film, much anything to its full extent. I had watched Dexter's Laboratory and had found it enjoyable beyond belief, so it was no great surprise that I found Samurai Jack a very different but yet a great cartoon to watch. Besides paying homage to the Samurai genre of films, it uses techniques seldom used in animation before. The characters seem to be made of cardboard or thin paper by the look of their outlines, yet they are alive and beautifully sketched on screen. Samurai Jack's story and intense dialog and action are the main reasons why people like it and then there are the themes of good versus evil, self enlightenment, learning spirituality and purging evil from one's soul. All these things make Samurai Jack incredible and better than Dexter's Laboratory by a long shot. However, the elements of humour, horror and suspense are what makes this cartoon separate and better than all the other cartoons of the 21st century. I can't even begin to describe how scared I was when Jack battled Aku in the graveyard or how impressed I was when Aku disguised as the Hermit sent Jack to gather the Armor of Chronos the Titan. The most impressive feat that Genndy Tartakovsky accomplished in my opinion is the humour he perfectly blended in to this wonderful cartoon. The episode in which Jack's attire and sword are stolen by a "Rabbit" is perhaps my favourite simply because it felt amazing that humour could be incorporated in to an action saga and a whole episode could be made in which the humour outweighed the action by a long shot. Samurai Jack will always remain a great cartoon and one for the books certainly, the only thing wrong with it was that it ended with only four seasons. I hope the film is good though.
After 16 years, I expected more of the same or a crescendo for the end. But it's just a massive letdown. Aku, the literal essence of evil now sounds like a rabi from NY, has self-doubts and just moans and whines all the time. His minions are nowhere to be seen except for one who is just stuck on "repeat' with the catch phrases. The scottish sidekick has 20+ daughters of the same age, the he dies, but not quite, and he has... magic bagpipes stronger than Aku's magic. /!\ Jack is an emotional wreck, lots of unnecessary drama about details but then he falls is love with a female assassin sent to kill him and they have... awkward moments. /!\ Good grief! In the age of cinematic reboots, even this has been plowed over in ordet to make a buck. The producers should've just let the it end with the original seasons. Utterly disappointing.

Jack's real, birth name is never revealed. In the second Pilot episode he decides to name himself with this alternate name after a group of young men got impressed by his actions. No, though the appearance of Samurai Jack himself is believably based on the Professors design from PPG. But they don't share anything related or common things in any ways. The series is left open to interpretation. However, in the series, Jack finds a stable portal through time before he is defeated by the guardian. It is implied that Jack will return to the past one day as the portal shows his older, bearded self wearing a crown. The guardian states that it is not yet time for him to use the portal.

On December, 2, 2015, Adult Swim announced that the show would be airing a new season on its Toonami programming block in March 11, 2017. The series is once again being produced at Cartoon Network Studios with Tartakovsky as executive producer. This new season shows the continuous journey of Jack taking place 50 years since the last episode of Season 4 in a ten episode event. a5c7b9f00b
