A computer engineer named Jennings awakens one day to discover that the last three years of his life and the work he did for a man named Rethrick during that time has been erased from his memory. He also learns that he agreed to the three years secret work and erasure in exchange for a huge sum of money. But when he goes to collect his paycheck, Jennings learns that before his memory was erased, he gave up the money in exchange for a small bag of worthless clues and trinkets. When the feds come looking for him, Jennings must go on the lam and try to put together the last three years so he can prove his innocence. Using the strange trinkets he previously left for himself, he goes on a journey in search of Rethrick, for whom he used to work, and how he knew that these worthless items would save his life.
Jennings, an engineer who has had part of his memory erased, struggles to to find clues to his whereabouts for the past two years. Turns out his employer did the evil deed as a security measure, leaving him only with a collection of random objects to help him reconstruct his past.
One of the most thrilling and exciting action films ever in My opinion is Paycheck! The movie stars Ben Affleck, Aaron Eckhart, Uma Thurman, Paul Giamatti, Colm Feore, Joe Morton, and Michael C. Hall! All of these actors acted very well. Eckhart has a great performance as a villain and he has a phenomenal presence in this film. Feore also has a good performance as a villain. All of the characters are really good. The action is really incredible. I was amazed by the chase scenes! The music by Media Venture John Powell is great and its arguably his greatest score to date! The film is directed excellently by John Woo and this maybe the best film that he has directed in My opinion! If you Ben Affleck, and want to see Aaron Eckhart in a great performance and want to see an exciting action Sci-Fi film then I strongly recommend that you see Paycheck today!
I was excited about this film ever since I first heard about it months earlier. I heard this film was based on another of Phillip K. Dick's short stories. I had very much enjoyed the last film based on one of Phillip K. Dick's stories 'Minority Report' so I thought this film must be good. It also interested me that the main actor was Ben Affleck, I thought that if he could play a comic book character well i.e. 'Daredevil' then let's see how he looks in a science-fiction thriller. When I heard that John Woo was the director, I thought it was great to see how he could direct a science-fiction film, since he had directed a number of great action films.

I certainly wasn't disappointed. This film is a great science-fiction thriller. Ben Affleck played his character just as well as Tom Cruise did in 'Minority Report'. Phillip K. Dick has come up with a number of interesting ideas for science fiction stories so I certainly hope there will be other films based on Phillip K. Dick's short stories.
Uninspired star turns from Ben Affleck and Uma Thurman suggest something less than full belief in this quickly forgettable thriller.
It is based on a short story Paycheck, written by Phillip K. Dick in the 1950s. There are several differences in the film and the original story (including the items Jennings gets from the envelope), but the basic premise is similar to the original. Notable features of the story that are different from the book are:

* Although the setting is 21-century America, it is a more dystopian future. A recent change in government has been referred to, the new government has a secret police force that supposedly never releases its detainees, the new government uses "credits" instead of "dollars", and individual citizens have significantly fewer rights than corporations do.

* Rethrick is a much older man and has no prior connection with Jennings.

* Although there is a potential love interest who works for the company named Kelly, she does not encounter Jennings until after the memory wipe and has a "surprise ending" secret that is not in the movie.

* Technology is significantly different. Erasing memory is a secret that most people do not know about (including the goverment agents who arrest Jennings). Rethrick's company still has significant manual labor. Cameras still require mechanical film. Rockets that transport people between cities are commonplace. And, the device that Jennings develops for Rethrick not only sees things but can also retrieve things.

* The plot features a lot more blackmail and threat of blackmail. Rethrick is generally unaware of Jennings' experiences after the memory wipe and it is Jennings who is looking for Rethrick, not the other way around.

* The climax of the short story is completely different from that of the movie. In the story, Jennings sneaks into the company alone, rather than with a partner as in the film (in the story he enlists Kelly's help, but simply asks her to keep whatever he finds safe so that it doesn't fall into the hands of the authorities) using a piece of cloth among his belongings that identifies him as a worker. He also had no interest in destroying the machine (identified as a "time scoop"), he simply wanted to photograph it (the device itself was illegal and the company was part of a resistance against an oppressive government). The film also adds in a climatic shootout that destroys most of the building, while in the original short story Jennings merely snuck out through a back door he had left himself a key to.

* The movie ends with Rethrick being killed while Jennings escapes and goes on to live with Rachel; the short story ends with Jennings successfully blackmailing Rethrick into making him a partner in the corporation, hinting at the possibility that he may eventually find a way to take over. a5c7b9f00b
