A Hong Kong detective suffers a fatal accident involving a mysterious medallion and is transformed into an immortal warrior with superhuman powers.
Eddie, an indomitable Hong Kong cop, is transformed into an immortal warrior with superhuman powers after a fatal accident involving a mysterious medallion. Eddie enlists the help of British Interpol agent Nicole to determine the secret of the medallion and face down the evil Snakehead who wants to use its magical powers for his own nefarious plans.
This film was definitely produced in China, and you can see it lacks the sophistication that has been seen in his more recent movies. The idea was cute, even if it was a take off of the Golden Child with Eddie Murphy movie, which was bad. This could have been done better. Watson was horrible, although I liked the fact that his wife was not a librarian either, and I don't see why that was not used more in the film.

Let's face it, Jackie is getting older, and he is doing too many movies now. If he put out one a year, I would be happy. I think we all have to realize though that he is trying to break away from all the action. He did not go to school to become a martial arts expert. He went to opera school, where he learned to act, tumble, fight, and even sing. The guy is almost fifty, and he said several years ago he was going to have to move into a different phase with his movies, but this film was just plain boring, and too over the top, although the 15 year old I was with liked it, and so did the rest of the kids at the theatre.
This film is so much better than some of these reviews. No it is not brutal or gory. It is a very light film closer in tone to Tuxedo or Shanghai Knights. It is not mean spirited at all and is just fine for all ages. There is an old fashioned kiss at the end of the film no different than an old movie and is not at all explicit. There are no sex scenes and no brutality.

There is a lot of action and the movie moves very fast. Perhaps the focus on a 10 year old boy that needs to be rescued is not jaded enough for some modern movie goers. But I found a very happy audience of all ages at this film. There are two women who are also heroes in this film. But these ladies are not cold or mean talking like movies recently seem to push. They are just nice but are heroes.

The scene where one wife pulls out a secret supply of weapons is meant to be breezy and fun and not to be judged like "where did she suddenly become an agent." I really liked this film. Also, if you have ever known someone that has died this film can make you think for a moment about having a second chance at life. Also, the British side kick was funny and very likable. Nobody is put down and this is a film about heroes. This film is funny and full of action. Check out the funny out takes at the end!
One of the Peking Opera-trained superstar's most mediocre films, rivaling last year’s God-awful "The Tuxedo" for sheer messy filmmaking and brazen acts of tedium... Abysmal.
The working title of the film was "Highbinders". In the original plot of the film, those who were given power by the medallion became a Highbinder. Snakehead's original goal in the film was to create an army of Highbinders to join in his crime organization.

According to the commentary by the editors, "The Medallion" was not American-made, although Columbia-TriStar bought the distribution and editing rights worldwide except in Japan, France, and Hong Kong (but these three countries retain the American cut of the film, the only cut ever made). The original cut was meant to be around 108 minutes, and the plot of the film explained Snakehead's crime organization of human smuggling, and the deaths that occurred from it, as well as his desire to create an army of Highbinders to aide his crime organization. All of this, however, was cut to center on the medallion. a5c7b9f00b
