The Lego DC Comics: Batman Be-Leaguered

Superman wants Batman to join his new superhero team, but Batman prides himself on being a self-sufficient loner.
This is a 23-minute animated short film from last year and like so many it features all kinds of superheroes. The Lego animation is something not everybody will appreciate too much including me, but I thought the humor and the characters made it worth a watch nonetheless. And somehow the humor was on par with the animation style. It just fit in my opinion. All the voice actors in this one are fairly experienced, have worked in film for decades some of them, and director Morales and writer Krieg are also not new to the genre at all. Experience shows and it's a successful job by everybody involved. Superman approaches Batman to get him to join the Justice League, but Batman is skeptical and decides to keep working on his own. It takes the involvement of Bat-Mite (a good guy? bad guy? stalking fan?), a character I am not familiar with to change Batman's mind. The story is sometimes fairly absurd and does not make really sense, but if you decide to watch it for the superhero action and not look for any depth in here, you may very well enjoy it. Decent watch and I recommend it.
At half the length this TV special manages to be better than the Bizarro movie. Opening in Gotham City we find Batman tackling the Penguin and the Joker in a jewel heist when Supes shows up and offers him a part in the new Justice League. Batman refuses and somehow Supes is teleported away by a mysterious entity. While investigating with the rest of the League they too disappear one at a time until Batman confronts the real villain.

The locations and models featured are fun, but I do believe that Batman has always worked better as a loner and doesn't gel with the rest of the shared DC universe due to the inconsistent tones.

Composer Tim Kelly could have made this felt a bit more cohesive by using the familiar themes but once again he just gives us a cartoon score.

Definitely worth watching, if unremarkable.
